Board Ratifies Agreement

The tentative successor agreement between the Oakdale Teachers Association and the Oakdale Joint Unified School District was ratified by the district's Board of Trustees at the Feb. 28 regular meeting. The teachers agreed to a 2.5 percent pay cut and five unpaid furlough days for the 2011-2012 year. This will result in a salary savings of $471,581 to the district in the 2011-2012 budget.

The Oakdale Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees ratified a tentative agreement with the Oakdale Teachers Association last night at the Feb. 28 board meeting. Distinguished Young Woman Named

Oakdale High School student Chloe Schoemann was named the 2012 Distinguished Young Woman at the Saturday, Feb. 19 scholarship competition, formerly known as Junior Miss, held at Magnolia School auditorium.

A Twist On Macbeth Offered Up At Schools

"Macbeth: The Musical" – a musical comedy version of Macbeth – with student-created characters and lines has been performed by students in the school district's Gifted And Talented Education (GATE) program, or "gifted learner" program, through the second and third weeks of February. The GATE students at each elementary school site in the Oakdale Joint Unified School District have presented two to three performances of the musical, each site with its own cast.

Students Channel Artistic Talent For Mural

Oakdale Community School students found their inner artistic talent with the help of muralist Rhonda Darling McDonald as they painted a mural of an Oakdale sunset on the bare walls of their Third Avenue schoolroom, Wednesday, Feb. 9.

After a "decade of dominance," the Oakdale High School Aca Deca team found a way to top their prior accomplishments: they won again. The team now boasts 11 consecutive championships from the Stanislaus County Academic Decathlon.

Leadership Profile Approved

The leadership profile for the future Superintendent of the Oakdale Joint Unified School District was approved at the Feb. 7 special meeting of the Board of Trustees. Trustees Mike House, Mike Tozzi, and student member Daniel Dunning were absent.

OID Tunnel Tour Educates Teachers

The unique opportunity to go behind locked gates to see the inner workings of the Oakdale Irrigation District with a tour of some of its tunnels was recently presented to a small group of Oakdale teachers. The Oakdale Joint Unified School District held a staff development day on Jan. 27 and the OID tour was one of the offered workshops where the participants could visit and learn about OID's water storage and delivery facilities.

Junior High Efforts Receive County Recognition

Oakdale Junior High was recognized earlier this month by Stanislaus County Office of Education and the Board of Supervisors for its Red Ribbon Week decorating efforts. The school was awarded First Place in the Middle School/Junior High Division. A total of 30 schools from the varying grade level categories participated.

Students Learning Through Service

Cy Cole, founder and Director of Oakdale Academy, recently offered his students an opportunity to combine service and education. The most recent application came in the way of sharing the story of a Waterford couple in need of assistance. As a follow-up to the students spending time serving, they were asked to recount the experience in an article, as if writing for a newspaper.

Magnolia Elementary School welcomed the Oakdale Join Unified School District's recent three-day weekend with a little extra special Fall Festival Celebration. Passion Rewarded - Thompson Nets $2,500 Award

Class time will soon be made a little more exciting for Fair Oaks Special Day Class teacher Elizabeth Thompson and her seven students. Thompson was recently awarded California Casualty's $2,500 Academic Award to use toward the betterment of her classroom.
