Oakdale High School's Interact club will once again put out collection bins and Christmas trees at locations in town where shoppers can drop off bags of necessity items for U.S. soldiers serving overseas.
Oakdale High School Marching Band and Jazz Band competed recently at the Central California Band Review in Merced. Both groups took third place in their divisions, an accomplishment that district band director Ross McGinnis is pleased about, as they went up against some "heavyweight" bands. The OHS Jazz Band missed the second place spot by .65 of a point out of 100 points. McGinnis said that OHS is in a different division this year that is "bigger, badder."
Students at Fair Oaks and Cloverland elementary schools were able to get up close and personal with different kinds of animals, farmers and ranchers, and other people who work in agriculture on Oct. 21 as the schools both hosted Ag Day Roundups. The events each featured dozens of indoor and outdoor presenters and displays representing different facets of agriculture.
The Valley Home Joint School District Board of Trustees voted 3-0 to hire Educational Leadership Associates (ELA) to facilitate the process to fill the interim Superintendent/Principal position at the Oct. 11 regular meeting. The district will be receiving a discounted fee of $6,000 for the contract term and not to exceed $6,500 from the firm owned by retired Oakdale Joint Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Wendell Chun. Trustees Ron Smith and Susan Calvin were absent.
Weaving is an ancient process of making cloth that dates back to several thousand years B.C. While the method may be old, it is not yet forgotten as students at Oakdale Junior High School are learning the craft during an art enrichment class in the Oasis after-school program.
Oakdale Joint Unified School District will celebrate Red Ribbon Week Oct. 24-28. All school sites will decorate with red ribbons, enjoy daily dress up days, and host lunchtime activities all promoting the message, "It's up to me to be drug free."

The Oakdale Joint Unified School District and the Oakdale Teachers Association exchanged initial proposals to modify their collective bargaining agreement in an action taken in a public hearing at the OJUSD Board of Trustees Oct. 10 regular meeting. OJUSD Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Terri Taylor said at the meeting that she'd present the California School Employees Association #830 with its respective proposal on Oct. 11, as a CSEA representative was not available at the time of the public hearing.
The Oakdale Educational Foundation (OEF) didn't miss a beat this year as its annual fundraiser on Sept. 24 at the Oakdale Golf and Country Club (OGCC) offered up musical entertainment, live auction action, and fine dining all in the name of drumming up financial support for Oakdale schools.
It's fall, it's football, it's Homecoming Week. Oakdale High School students are on a "California Adventure" for this year's homecoming theme and this week features spirit activities to get both the student body and the community rallied in support of the Oakdale Mustangs.
