Cloverland Students Enjoy Hands-On Ag Learning

It may have been a rainy day on Friday, but that didn't stop the presenters from turning out and the kids from taking it all in as Cloverland Elementary hosted its Ag Day. Kids got to meet and greet some animals, learn about horseshoeing, try their hand at dummy roping and more. Plenty of pop-ups were in evidence, as the students and presenters tried to stay dry. Fourth Graders Begin To Examine Chinook

Things may seem a little fishy with Oakdale Joint Unified fourth graders these days, as teacher Krista Smith has begun making her migration to the varying school sites. Smith's migration, however, doesn't come by way of a fish snack cracker or a classroom pet, the salmon teacher spends two days of lecture time teaching the students about Chinook Salmon. As result of her teachings the students then travel to Knights Ferry to visit the Stanislaus River and learn further about the sea life in their natural habitat.

OJUSD Prepares For Annual Red Ribbon Week Events

Monday, Oct. 24 will mark the start of the Red Ribbon Week, nationally observed each year. The national theme for this year's event is "YOLO. Be Drug Free." The popularly used acronym YOLO stands for "You Only Live Once." Each of the OJUSD school sites has developed a plan for daily Red Ribbon Week activities around the theme.

SPELLBINDING TRIO

Magnolia Bears were all abuzz last week as they competed in the school's Annual Spelling Bee. The top three winners for this year's event were, from left: Jackson Hammond, Third Place; Brooklin Werner, Second Place and Emma Frazer, First Place. Emma will now go on to represent Magnolia at the County Spelling Bee.

School District Assessment Scores Show Positive Trend

It was a night focused on academia Monday, Oct. 10 during the Oakdale Joint Unified School Board meeting, as Assistant Superintendent Kristi Rapinchuk reviewed results and comparisons for the Spring 2016 Smarter Balanced Assessment System (SBAC) testing. The tests replaced the STAR assessment system as the curriculum has changed to Common Core Standards.

Homecoming Hopefuls Ready For Spotlight

Homecoming Week will end with the crowning of new royalty on Friday night at the Corral. By the end of the evening, a new King and Queen, Prince and Princess will be selected for Oakdale. Candidates will be featured in Friday's parade and the winners revealed at Friday night's Homecoming game. Following are photos of the candidates.

Junior High Begins 2016 With Modified Class Schedule

Oakdale Junior High School students are spending a bit more time in their classes this year. While the length of their school day has not been altered, their time spent in the classroom has. How? Simple, class time modification by way of reducing the schedule from an eight period day to a seven period day.
