For anyone not in the know, Monday night's school board meeting made it evident. The community of Oakdale holds strong to its agriculture roots, as the Oakdale City Council Chambers hosted a sea of blue corduroy jackets and standing room only occupancy.

Oakdale Spellers Ready For County Championship

Top spellers from area schools will compete in Stanislaus County Spelling Championships in November. The Elementary Spelling Championship, for children in grades 4-6, is slated for Tuesday, Nov. 3 at Gregori High School, 3701 Pirrone Road, Modesto. The Junior High Spelling Championship, for those in grades 7-8, is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 10 at the Petersen Event Center, 720 12th St., Modesto. Sponsored by the Stanislaus County Office of Education and Dot Foods, both events are open to the public and begin promptly at 5 p.m.

Oakdale Joint Unified Rallies To Cause

Fences are decorated, ribbons are hung, bracelets passed out and Oakdale Joint Unified School District has once again embraced Red Ribbon Week. The annual event is held nationally every year during the last full week of October. The 2015 Red Ribbon Week runs from Oct. 26 to Oct. 30.

Young Students Buy Into Campus Farmers Market

Selecting fresh fruits and vegetables were on the 'To Do List' for over 1400 Oakdale elementary school students over the past week. Food 4 Thought made a return appearance to Oakdale Joint Unified School District, stopping this time at Fair Oaks and Magnolia elementary schools. Cloverland and Sierra View elementary schools were visited in September.

A few Oakdale High School S-Club members give their costumes a review and practice their Halloween 'scare or be scared' reactions as the group prepares for their annual Trick or Treat for cans event. The group will visit the Vineyard and Burchell Hill developments on Friday, Oct. 23 and the Oakdale Golf Course area on Saturday, Oct. 24 in search of donations to benefit local food cupboards.
