Student Enrollment Days At Modesto JC

Modesto Junior College will host its third annual "New Student Day" events to enroll high school seniors and other first time students on Saturdays, April 9 and May 21 at 8 a.m. on East Campus, 435 College Ave., Modesto. Students will meet in the Auditorium of the Performing and Media Arts Center. Attendance and campus parking are free.

SHARING SEUSS

Elementary students throughout the Oakdale Joint Unified School District participated in Read Across America in observation of the birth of famed children's book author Dr. Seuss. Shown, students from Oakdale High School made a visit to Fair Oaks Elementary where they shared stories and smiles with the young students. The annual event is hosted the same time each year and is observed nationwide. It is known as one of the largest celebrations of reading in the country.

Open House Scheduled At Valley Charter HS

Valley Charter High School's (VCHS) Open House is slated for Thursday, March 3 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the school (108 Campus Way, Modesto). The open house is an opportunity for all parents and prospective students to learn more about the school and its collaboration with Modesto Junior College. The award-winning VCHS program, recipient of the 2015 California Gold Ribbon and multiple national honors, includes college-preparatory academic programs for all students and outstanding Early College, choir, robotics, leadership and club opportunities.

Anderson, Russell ‘Making A Difference’

What may not be as commonly known, yet equally important is the pride the district takes in its classified staff. Most recently two of the district's classified employees were acknowledged at an awards ceremony hosted by Stanislaus County Office of Education, receiving the 2015-16 'Making a Difference' honors.

Boosters Club Dinner Dance

Decathletes Collect Medals In Competition

On Saturday, Feb. 6 Oakdale High School's Academic Decathlon team brought home the trophy for the 16th consecutive year as the winners of the 36th Annual Stanislaus County Academic Decathlon. This year's theme was "India."

Stanislaus County Teams Shine In State’s Future City Competition

Gratton Elementary School in Stanislaus County took first place in the Northern California Regional Contest for the Future City Competition held in January in Vallejo at the California Maritime Academy. HiMap Academy placed second. HiMAP is an Academy focusing on STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading & Writing, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) disciplines at CSU Stanislaus.

Region 6 Student Artists Showcased In Exhibition

As part of Youth Arts Month, the public is invited to visit the Educationally Interpretive Exhibition, "Making Arts Learning Visible!" Feb. 29 – April 1, 2016 (8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.) at the Stanislaus County Office of Education (1100 H St., second floor). The Art Show features student work, photos and evidence of the process of art-making from preschool to advanced high school students across Region 6, which includes Amador, Calaveras, San Joaquin, Stanislaus and Tuolumne counties.

Public Forum Sees Limited Attendance

A public forum which was talked about by many was attended by few. Close to 50 people attended the Boundary Study, Public Forum on Thursday evening, Feb. 4 at Magnolia Elementary. Of the 50 in attendance close to half were Oakdale Joint Unified School District (OJUSD) educators and administrators. A flier announcing the Public Forum was sent home with all elementary school students two weeks prior to the meeting.
