Wong Captures Bright Minds Award

Recent Oakdale High School graduate Danny Wong was surprised a few days after his graduation ceremony, awarded with a life-changing PG&E Bright Minds scholarship of up to $30,000 a year renewable for up to five years for educational costs. Wong is the first Stanislaus County student to win a Bright Minds Scholarship. He had applied and knew he won a scholarship, but he had no idea of the magnitude until it was announced during a special reception at Oakdale's Cafe Bliss.

Super Summer Camp Offers Fun, Learning

Now in its third year, an eight-week summer program known as Super Summer Camp, kicked off on June 3 with 74 children present – the highest number so far during the first week of camp, said camp co-supervisor Carla Moore. Super Summer Camp is operated by the Oakdale Joint Unified School District at the Magnolia Elementary School campus and ends July 26.

Eighth Graders Mark Milestone

A sure sign of stepping into young adulthood, the nearly 350 Oakdale Junior High School eighth grade graduates received their diplomas and crossed that threshold into high school. They will be freshmen at OHS in August and celebrated the closing chapter of junior high in front of family and friends at a packed Corral on Thursday night, May 23.

Science Community Center Opening

Modesto Junior College and Yosemite Community College District will hold a ribbon cutting celebration for the new Science Community Center on Tuesday, May 21 at 10a.m. on the West Campus at 2201 Blue Gum Ave., Modesto. The public will have the opportunity to tour the facility with MJC faculty and staff members to learn about the numerous educational opportunities available in the new building.

A "field trip" came to school for Fair Oaks Elementary third graders on May 8 to study the Yokuts people. The Yokuts populated this area at one time and consisted of a number of different tribes.

Modesto Junior College will present a Choral and Vocal Extravaganza on Friday, April 26 in the Performing and Media Arts Center Main Auditorium at 7:30p.m. Tickets will be sold at the door for $5 general admission and $4 for students and senior citizens.

Young Scientists To Compete

OJHS Graduates Speak At 2015 Send Off

Elementary Schools Celebrate Agriculture

Like their counterparts at Cloverland and Fair Oaks elementary schools did at the beginning of the school year, students at Sierra View and Magnolia got an up close look at the wonderful world of agriculture recently. Both campuses had special Ag Day programs, allowing kids the opportunity to learn more about livestock, food production, jobs in the industry and more. Presenters brought a variety of information with them, and students had the opportunity to visit several stations set up at their schools for the fun, educational day.

Oakdale students from kindergarten through eighth grade dusted off their beakers, pulled out their scales and searched the Web to gather ideas to submit for the 32nd Annual Science Fair. Students from all four elementary schools, as well as Oakdale Junior High School, were represented in this year's event.
