Oakdale Schools Lead In Exit Exam Passage

Oakdale schools' pass rates of the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) are higher than any other unified school district in Stanislaus County and surpass the county and state average pass rates, according to a report given to the Oakdale Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees at the Sept. 10 regular meeting.

Bullying Presentation Due For Students, Community

Rachel Scott was the first student killed in the Columbine High School shooting in 1999. Her family found her diary that contained an essay called "My Ethics, My Codes of Life" and then developed a program called Rachel's Challenge, which in part, challenges students to eliminate prejudice, set big goals, and be mindful of their influence.

Fair Oaks Changes Parent Group Affiliation

Fair Oaks Elementary School has made a switch from the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) to the Parent Teacher Club (PTC). The PTA group decided to disband and become a new type of parent-teacher organization because they felt a PTC would better meet the needs of the school.

California Connections Academy @ Ripon, an online public school serving students in grades K-12, is accepting new students for the 2014-2015 school year during the current open enrollment period. Learning In Arts Reception Slated

As part of Youth Arts Month the Stanislaus County Office of Education, in partnership with the Stanislaus County Alliance for Arts Education, is hosting a Region 6 Student Art Show, which includes Amador, Calaveras, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, and Tuolumne Counties. Students, parents, teachers and the Region 6 arts community are invited to attend an evening reception to celebrate Learning in the Arts on Tuesday, March 18 from 6p.m. to 8p.m. The reception will include a tour of the art exhibit along with music performances from local students and a presentation of teacher awards.

Board Approves Spending Of Common Core $$

To implement the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), the Oakdale Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees approved the expenditure plan for it at the March 10 regular meeting. The district receives funds in a one-time allotment of a little over $1.05 million from the state and they may be spent in 2013-2014 and 2014-2015. The CCSS are required to be in place for the 2014-2015 year and the funds must be spent by July 1, 2015.
