Stanislaus County Leadership Academy is partnering with Leadership Modesto on Friday, Dec. 8 for Education Day. Students taking part in the countywide program will meet with current Leadership Modesto participants in the morning with a "Getting to Know You" rotation before hearing from Superintendent Tom Changnon on the "Snapshot of Education in Stanislaus County."

In the spirit of Harvest and Agriculture education, Cloverland Elementary School hosted its annual Ag Day event on Friday, Oct. 27. Of the many visitors to campus, students were treated to a demonstration in horseshoe making by a farrier and Miss Oakdale Rodeo was featured in one of the classrooms, discussing with students the varying events and animals that make rodeo such an integral part of the Western life.

The Oakdale Music Boosters are looking to once again pack the Oakdale High School gym, fill some bellies and empty some pockets of generous donors as they host the annual Boosters Dinner and Music Showcase this Saturday, Nov. 4. The annual event will be hosted from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for students. Tickets are available at the door. Top spellers from area schools will compete in the Stanislaus County Junior High Spelling Championship this month. The Junior High Spelling Championship, for students in seventh and eighth grades, is slated for Tuesday, Nov. 14 at the Petersen Event Center, 720 12th St., Modesto. Sponsored by the Stanislaus County Office of Education, the event is open to the public and begins promptly at 5:30 p.m.

Oakdale schools hosted activities throughout the week in observance of Red Ribbon Week. Hosted each year, the annual event brings awareness of the adverse effects of drugs and alcohol. All sites in the district take part in some way, with students participating in fun activities that also deliver a serious message, highlighting the dangers associated with drug abuse.

The Stanislaus County Office of Education and Foothill Horizons Outdoor School will host a special dedication ceremony to commemorate the official opening of "Carl's Campfire Circle" on Monday, Oct. 30 at 11 a.m. at Foothill Horizons in Sonora, 21925 Lyons Bald Mountain Road. Every year, 6,000 students from Stanislaus County participate in three to five days of interactive science education at Foothill Horizons' overnight facility in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
