Rain was on the schedule for Memorial Day, Monday, May 27 but the weather remained mild and dry for the Memorial Day Ceremony at the Oakdale Citizens' Cemetery, which made for a pleasant remembrance for the good-sized attending crowd.

Modesto Area of the California Highway Patrol will be conducting a DUI and driver's license checkpoint on Saturday, May 25 between 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. somewhere within the unincorporated area of Stanislaus County.
With pleasant weather in the forecast for both days, the 21st annual Oakdale Chocolate Festival had thousands attend to enjoy the classic cars, entertainment, food, merchandise and crafts, and most of all, the chocolate.
As over 100 peace officers from 13 different law enforcement agencies in Stanislaus County converged in a one-day gang sweep, focusing on over 115 gang-related targets, one city's cops were absent from the posse – The City of Oakdale.
CHP officers throughout the Central Valley will be conducting a specialized Motorcycle Safety Enforcement Operation on Friday, May 17 in an effort to lower deaths and injuries. Extra officers will be on duty patrolling areas frequented by motorcyclists and where motorcycle crashes occur. Officers will be looking for violations made by drivers and riders alike that can lead to motorcycle crashes. They will be cracking down on both those operating regular vehicles and motorcycles that are under the influence of drugs or alcohol, speeding, making illegal turns, or any other dangerous violation.
Rhys Ludlow is an eight-year-old second grader that will be having a 'Dog Gone Good Lemonade Stand' at Sierra View Elementary School on Saturday, May 18 from noon to dusk … or until he no longer has lemonade. This lemonade stand is not only to participate in National Lemonade Day but also to raise funds for a good cause.

Railtown 1897 State Historic Park (SHP) plans to treat moms extra special this Mother's Day ‑ on Sunday, May 12 ‑ by pulling out the famous "Movie Star Locomotive" Sierra No. 3 for weekend excursion train rides and also giving away complimentary commemorative Belgian chocolate bars to all mothers who take a train ride (while supplies last). For those wanting to treat mom extra special on Mother's Day, there will be a first-class train ride available as well.
Stanislaus County fire officials are preparing for the upcoming fire season by conducting a regional training on May 9th-14th, 2013 at Modesto Reservoir. The Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District, Ceres Fire Department, Oakdale Fire Department and Modesto Regional Fire Authority are managing this regional training. The primary goal of the exercise is to meet the minimum annual training mandates for firefighters participating in regional firefighting efforts.
