AvThe 2011 National Night Out celebration for Oakdale will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 2 in Burchell Park. The three-hour event starts at 5:30 p.m. and is open to all area residents.

Local Exhibitors Win Fair Prizes

Local 4-H and FFA members had good results with their livestock and other exhibits at the Stanislaus County Fair, which ran July 15-24. Several Oakdale exhibitors brought home champion and reserve champion ribbons, as well as numerous other top class placings with their breeding and market stock. National Day Of The American Cowboy Celebrated

County Fair Welcomes Visitors

Complete with rainbow-colored parrots, trundling turtles and slithering snakes, the ever popular Rainforest Adventure exhibit is back, the carnival rides are even more stomach-churning than before, the young farmers' animal barns include a petting zoo and the stage shows range from circus slapstick such as Jest In Time to country singers like Clint Black.

West Nile Confirmed

The Turlock Mosquito Abatement District and Public Health Officials received notification that three mosquito samples taken in the Turlock area on July 8 were positive with the West Nile Virus (WNV), indicating that West Nile Virus (WNV) is active in Stanislaus County.

Oakdale Appoints Interim Manager

The appointment of Oakdale's new part-time interim city manager, who will start Aug. 1, was announced at the Oakdale City Council meeting Monday night, July 18. Gregory Wellman retired last year after more than four decades in the public sector.
