Oakdale’s Inaugural Father-Daughter Ball A Success

Oakdale Sunrise Rotary is beaming with excitement at the success of their inaugural "Boots and Bows" Father/Daughter Ball, hosted in February at the Gene Bianchi Community Center. Attendees enjoyed dancing, food, an enormous candy table and chocolate fondue station, raffle prizes, and more. There were a few unexpected surprises as well.

Shelter Pet Alliance Program Reaches Another Milestone

The Oakdale Shelter Pet Alliance (OSPA) recently celebrated the completion of 3,000 dog and cat spay/neuters through its voucher program since the program started in August 2011. Anne McFarlin, a first time voucher customer from Oakdale, was all smiles when she was presented with a Petco gift basket that was provided by Billie Mende in recognition of reaching the program milestone.

Grants Provided For Variety Of Habitat, Wildlife Projects

At its Thursday, Feb. 22 quarterly meeting, the Wildlife Conservation Board (WCB) approved approximately $17.9 million in grants to help restore and protect fish and wildlife habitat throughout California. Some of the 15 approved projects will benefit fish and wildlife – including some endangered species – while others will provide public access to important natural resources. Several projects will also demonstrate the importance of protecting working landscapes that integrate economic, social and environmental stewardship practices beneficial to the environment, landowners and the local community.

Distinguished Young Women Hopefuls Vie For Title

The annual Distinguished Young Women of Oakdale program will be held on Saturday, March 10 at 7 p.m. at Magnolia School Auditorium. Soroptimist International of Oakdale has sponsored the program for the past 30 years. Oakdale High School senior Gabrielle Ceja currently holds the title of Oakdale's Distinguished Young Woman.

MJC Panel Discussion Focuses On Speech

The Modesto Junior College Civic Engagement Project (CEP) invites the community to Free Speech and Hate Speech: A Panel Discussion with Experts on Thursday, March 1 at 7 p.m. in Forum 110 on East Campus, 435 College Ave., Modesto. The free event is part of the CEP Spring Film and Lecture Series. Campus parking is available for $2 in student parking lots.

It is officially Girl Scout Cookie Time – the sweet treats benefitting local Girl Scout troops on sale now around the region. This group was busy with a steady stream of customers on Saturday outside the local SaveMart on East F Street. Dairymen Gather Locally For Unique ProCross Tour

Creative Genetics has added its own unique spin to Oakdale's famous title as "Cowboy Capital of the World." Earlier this month the Oakdale-based business welcomed over 160 dairymen, their families, as well as agriculture professionals and journalists as they hosted the annual ProCross Open House.

Robbery Under Investigation

Oakdale Police are investigating another late night robbery, this one occurring at Circle K, 1515 W. F St., marking the second time in less than two weeks the local gas station/convenience store was held up at gunpoint.
