The 'dentists Sceville' were hosting the third annual "Candy Buy Back" event for the day after Halloween. Incumbent Oakdale City Councilman Tom Dunlop appeared headed for re-election to a four-year term with 1,141 votes as of 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, with five of 10 Oakdale precincts reporting in. Newcomer Don Petersen was close behind with 1,111 votes and, if the trend held, would be elected to the other four-year term on the council.

The Stanislaus River Salmon Festival Planning Committee is hosting it's fourth annual Salmon Festival on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Knights Ferry recreation area, 12 miles East of Oakdale off Highway 108/120. Fall is the time of year to celebrate the salmon returning to spawn in the Stanislaus River.
