Council Moves Forward On Multiple Projects

Land decisions underscored a series of votes by the Oakdale City Council on Monday evening, Nov. 5. After discussions, the council chose to re-designate 10 acres in the Bridle Ridge housing development from high-density to medium-density residential zoning, voted to purchase three parcels on Yosemite Avenue between H and J streets for the proposed community plaza and skate park, and moved forward for a new perimeter fence around the city-owned airport.

There was quite the stir in the parking lot at Drs. Jeff and Jody Sceville's dentist office in Oakdale on Thursday, Nov. 1. The 'dentists Sceville' were hosting the third annual "Candy Buy Back" event for the day after Halloween. Through the program, they give youngsters the opportunity to turn in their candy for cash and then the candy will be shipped to soldiers overseas. They had a thank you card station set up so that anyone could design a card for the troops, which will be shipped to them with the candy. The local dentists buy the candy ...

Dunlop, Jackson Take Lead In Oakdale Council Race

Incumbent Oakdale City Councilman Tom Dunlop appeared headed for re-election to a four-year term with 1,141 votes as of 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, with five of 10 Oakdale precincts reporting in. Newcomer Don Petersen was close behind with 1,111 votes and, if the trend held, would be elected to the other four-year term on the council.

Salmon Festival Slated This Weekend

The Stanislaus River Salmon Festival Planning Committee is hosting it's fourth annual Salmon Festival on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Knights Ferry recreation area, 12 miles East of Oakdale off Highway 108/120. Fall is the time of year to celebrate the salmon returning to spawn in the Stanislaus River.
