An overcast morning proved to serve as perfect running weather for over 350 runners and walkers on Saturday, March 10 as they joined in for the ninth annual SOS (Support Oakdale Schools) Fun Run. The event was hosted at Cloverland Elementary School, attracting city officials, school district employees, as well as community members showing up to cheer on the participants.

The annual Distinguished Young Women of Oakdale program, sponsored by Soroptimist International of Oakdale, was hosted Saturday, March 10 at Magnolia School Auditorium. Oakdale High School senior and reigning Distinguished Young Woman Gabrielle Ceja passed her title to Shannen Yang, a junior at Oakdale High School.

Stanislaus County Clerk/Recorder/Registrar of Voters Lee Lundrigan has announced the candidate filing deadline of Friday, March 9 for the June 5 Statewide Direct Primary Election has passed. Under California law, filing is now closed except in Stanislaus Board of Supervisors (BOS) District 4, Sheriff, County Clerk/Recorder, Treasurer/Tax Collector, Auditor, and Superintendent of Schools in which the incumbent did not file with the county elections official. In the race in which the incumbent did not file for candidacy, the filing period extends for non-incumbents to 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 14.

The Oakdale Garden Club's next meeting will be held Tuesday, March 20 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bianchi Community Center, 110 S. Second Ave., Oakdale. This month's program, as presented by Judy Walters, is about how participants can create the popular Fairy Gardens. These whimsical miniature gardens can be placed in either your indoor or outdoor spaces, and are sure to bring smiles to all who view them.

Teams are still being sought for the upcoming Oakdale-Escalon-Riverbank-Waterford Relay For Life. The event will be hosted May 5 and 6 at the Oakdale High School soccer fields, bringing together teams from the communities for one centralized 24-hour American Cancer Society fundraising event. Teams are gearing up for with fundraisers and special activities; look for information about those activities in this regularly scheduled 'Relay Corner' in preparation for the main event.

Guests will be entertained by Rob Ely who will emcee and present "A Little Bit Country" and are encouraged to dress in country attire for the Best Dressed Rhinestone Cowboy and Rhinestone Cowgirl costume contest.
