In an attempt to fight against the rising tide of vandalism and graffiti that is washing over the City of Oakdale and leaving behind an undesirable eyesore, a newly formed task force is seeking volunteers to put their heads together to find workable solutions.
As a result of studies begun five months ago, the Postal Service has made the decision to move all mail processing operations at eight California facilities to other locations, including closure of the nearby Stockton site. The changes will be as follows:

A discussion about the start of the 2012 water season held at the Feb. 21 regular meeting of the Oakdale Irrigation District Board of Directors resulted in the board unanimously voting to hold off on starting the first irrigation until at least March 6. Director Steve Webb moved that the district get the OID water system ready to deliver water now and then to decide at the March 6 board meeting when to start the irrigation rotations.
The Oakdale City Council is meeting tonight, Tuesday, Feb. 21, instead of Monday due to the Presidents' Day holiday. Among other items on the agenda, there is an item regarding a dispute surrounding the tourism board, which was formerly overseen by the Oakdale Chamber of Commerce.
Police arrested two Oakdale men with outstanding warrants Wednesday, Feb. 15 after a patrol officer found the two men in a verbal confrontation on First Avenue and J Street near their illegally parked vehicle.
On Friday, Feb. 17, State Route 219 (Kiernan Avenue) between Sisk Road and Dale Road will be closed for approximately 30 minutes beginning at 8:45 a.m. Traffic going eastbound will be detoured south on Sisk Road and Pelandale Avenue will be the alternate route. Traffic going westbound will be detoured south on Dale Road with Pelandale Avenue being the alternate route. The roadway is expected to reopen at approximately 9:15 a.m.
Stepping back in time, patrons of the old-fashioned speakeasy set up inside Oakdale's Gene Bianchi Community Center on Saturday night seemed right at home, visiting the blackjack tables, listening to a singer croon a song, taking a spin on the ballroom dance floor, even enjoying a libation at the bar.
Riverbank Oakdale Transit Authority has incurred a $14,000 penalty for failing to meet the 10 percent fare box ratio of the state's funding for operating the public bus system, ROTA Coordinator Donna Bridges reported in her memo to the board that met yesterday, Feb. 14.
