Search Warrant Leads To Gun, Drugs, Stolen ATV

Oakdale Police with assistance from the Ceres Police Department SWAT team served a search warrant in the 300 block of South Third Avenue on Monday morning, Nov. 4, leading to the discovery of heroin, a stolen ATV, and a loaded handgun.

Check Smoke Alarms As Time Changes

To help reduce the number of home fire fatalities, CAL FIRE is reminding all Californians to make sure they have working smoke alarms in their homes. Nearly two-thirds of home fire deaths result from fires in homes with no working smoke alarms. A little attention to these important life saving devices can go a long way in increasing your chance of surviving a devastating fire. Many people use the time change – such as this weekend as we 'fall back' early morning Sunday, Nov. 3 – to change the batteries and test their alarms.

Corrected: Delta Cross Channel Gates To Be Opened

The Bureau of Reclamation will open the Delta Cross Channel Gates on Thursday, Oct. 31, at approximately 9a.m., to allow for recreational boating through the weekend. The gates will be closed on Monday, Nov. 4, at 9 a.m., in order to meet Bay-Delta flow standards at Rio Vista, according to State Water Resources Control Board Decision D-1641. The gates will remain closed until further notice.

Fire Merger Presented In Oakdale Forum

Local residents, including those from Knights Ferry and Valley Home, gathered at the Gene Bianchi Community Center on Monday night, Oct. 28, to hear a presentation at a special Oakdale City Council meeting regarding the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District absorbing the City of Oakdale Fire Department and Oakdale Rural Fire Protection District. In addition to council members, board members from both fire protection districts were on hand.

Oakdale Police responded to a reported bomb threat shortly before 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28 in a call that prompted a 'shelter in place' for students at nearby Oakdale High School.

After a week long investigation, Oakdale Police have made one arrest and are anticipating the arrest of a second identified suspect from the Oct. 17 shooting near the Oakdale Market where a 23-year-old male from Riverbank was shot two times.

Operation Fog Ready To Kick In

During the winter months, San Joaquin, Stanislaus and Merced Counties are plagued by extremely dense fog which poses a severe hazard to drivers. Typically the fog season begins during the month of November and continues through February. Despite this predictable seasonal occurrence, multi-vehicle accidents are commonplace due to the combination of fog, excessive speeds and traffic congestion.

Homecoming Week Wraps

Homecoming Week festivities wrapped up successfully on Friday, Oct. 18 when the Oakdale High School Mustangs beat Sierra High School at the OHS Corral by a 24-17 final in Friday night football. The satisfying win (See story, photos in Sports, Page B1) capped a busy week that also saw a repeat Powder Puff victory by the Class of 2014 (Page B2) and the crowning of new royalty in the Homecoming Court.
