Alternative Education Buildings Removed

An empty lot remains where two portable classrooms had stood together for many years at the Alternative Education location on the corner of Hinkley Avenue and G Street, just west of Oakdale High School. The two portables were approximately 25 years old and were recently removed to make way for three newer relocatables from Oakdale Junior High School, which are no longer needed due to the completion of permanent classroom buildings there.

Holiday Closures, Fireworks Scheduled

The Fourth of July falls on a Sunday this year, which means many locations will also be closed on Monday, July 5 for the holiday observance.

All Oakdale city offices will be closed on July 5. There will be no mail delivery that day, banks ad businesses have the option of closing. The Oakdale Leader office will be closed on Monday as well.

Clydesdales Returning To The County Fair

Fair officials announced that the Budweiser Clydesdales will be returning to the Stanislaus County Fair this summer for the 10-day run.

These beautiful Scottish horses will be appearing all 10 days at the 2010 Stanislaus County Fair. The Clydesdales made their first appearance in Turlock at the 2008 Stanislaus County Fair and became a popular attraction for people to watch. The Clydesdales will be available for viewing every day and will also be participating in a parade and/or other events depending on the day. Local 4-H Club Members Win At State Field Day

Several members from Oakdale's Sierra and River Oaks 4-H clubs competed in Davis recently at the State Field Day for the Fashion Revue and Presentation Day. Stanislaus County had five participants in the Fashion Revue, three representing Sierra 4-H and two representing River Oaks 4-H. Each of them won awards at the county and regional contests in order to advance to the state level.

City Council Adopts Sign Amendment

When the going gets tough, the tough get … new sign ordinances that will enable the city to rake in some much-needed dough from minor traffic infractions.

Oakdale City Council members approved a code text amendment to the Oakdale Municipal Code at the last council meeting, Monday, June 7, that is modeled after the successful implementation of similar amendments in Newman and Riverbank.

No Charges Filed Against Restaurateur Accused Of Sexual Assault

For the second time the Stanislaus County District Attorney's Office has asked the court to grant them more time to decide if they will pursue criminal charges against a Turlock man accused of sexually assaulting an employee at his Oakdale pizzeria.
