December Events Slated At The Oakdale Library

Children and teens are invited to take part in free crafts and activities this December, beginning with a DIY window clings program on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 3:30 p.m. Teens can create snowflakes and other winter designs out of puff paint. When dry, these designs can be used to decorate windows.

Spirit Of Oakdale Serves Hundreds On Thanksgiving

The turkeys were carved, potatoes mashed and pies sliced as Vickie Thompson, Mickey Peabody and their crew of close to 200 volunteers once again hosted the Annual Spirit of Oakdale Thanksgiving dinner. The 24th annual event was staged this past Thursday – Thanksgiving Day – and was open to all.

Downtown Christmas Slated For This Saturday

The Christmas Spirit is alive and well in the city of Oakdale. This Saturday, Dec. 2 downtown businesses will extend their hours and open their doors in support of the Ninth Annual Downtown Christmas. The event will be hosted from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

New Cannabis Businesses Face Tax Responsibilities

Slowing Trend In Central Valley Employment Growth Continues

In line with predictions made in previous San Joaquin Valley Business Forecast Reports, total employment growth in the San Joaquin Valley continues to slow. Since the slowing of growth is at a more significant rate than in previous years, the Valley economy is displaying signs of plateauing. That's the outlook of Gökçe Soydemir, the Foster Farms Endowed Professor of Business Economics at California State University, Stanislaus, in his biannual Business Forecast Report.

MJC Agriculture Fundraiser Benefits 4-H Program

As the holiday season approached, Modesto Junior College agriculture students felt compelled to give back to the community. The Young Farmers Club organized a BBQ chicken meal on Nov. 1 that raised over $2,000 to benefit the Westside Ministries' Community Cultivators 4-H program. Westside Ministries has the primary purpose of providing opportunities for low-income children. The funds donated by MJC's Young Farmers Club were used to purchase fair supplies and equipment for the 4-H program.

Highest Thanksgiving Gas Prices Since 2014

GasBuddy, the only smartphone app connecting 70 million drivers with their Perfect Pit Stop, has projected that Thanksgiving will see the highest average gas prices since 2014 as the country prepares for the busiest traveling weekend of the year. Yet the average gas price in four of five U.S. states is lower than a week ago, coming as the number of Americans driving is expected to surge by 20 percent over last Thanksgiving, according to GasBuddy's Annual Holiday Travel Survey.
