Cooling Centers Officially Open As Temperatures Creep Into Triple Digits

Due to extreme temperatures expected today, the City of Oakdale has offered the Gladys L. Lemons Senior Community Center at 450 East A St. as a cooling center. The center will remain open until 6 p.m. today for anyone needing such assistance.

City’s Proposed Budget Presented To Council

No 10-Day OID Rotations

"In light of drought and continuing water conditions," the Oakdale Irrigation District will forgo 10-day irrigation rotations for the 2014 water season, which will also leave some water in the district's "conservation account" at New Melones Reservoir, said OID General Manager Steve Knell at the June 3 regular meeting of the OID Board of Directors.

Market Gears Up For Summer Run

The Oakdale Farmers Market is seeing a few changes this year. In addition to moving the Market to Wednesday nights and extending the hours just a bit, from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., visitors will notice a huge change when they visit. The closure of E Street will allow market goers to safely browse all that the market has to offer. With this small closure it allowed organizers to move things around and get produce stands and other food offerings out of the sun.

MULTI-AGENCY RESPONSE

A multi-alarm fire on Mahon Avenue in Escalon early Thursday afternoon saw response from Oakdale Rural, Stanislaus Consolidated, Ripon and Farmington fire department personnel in addition to the Escalon crews. A large workshop and adjoining home were extensively damaged and several trees surrounding the property were damaged by the flames.
