Body Cameras Approved For Police Department

Oakdale Police officials anticipate a program for officers to wear body cameras to be in effect within three to four months, according to Interim Police Chief Mike Harden. On Monday, June 6, the city council unanimously approved the purchase of the $43,000 program.

Senior Information Day Deemed Success

Oakdale and surrounding area seniors were once again treated to a complimentary lunch and a wealth of information during the 15th Annual Oakdale Senior Information Day hosted on Friday, June 10. The annual event is presented and sponsored by the City of Oakdale and Oak Valley Hospital District and is free to the community. It is hosted each year at the Gene Bianchi Community Center.

Movies Under The Stars Premiere This Weekend

Oakdale Family Resource and Counseling Center (OFRC) will host Inside Out for the first Movie Under the Stars event in Cottles Woods Park at dusk on Saturday, June 18. This is the first of three Movie Under the Stars events, the next two taking place July 16 and Aug. 20. The July movie will be a showing of Minions and the August feature will be a showing of Norm of the North. All three events will be in Cottles Woods Park with the show beginning at dusk.

Pipeline Infrastructure Safety Addressed In Legislative Bill

Provisions from the Protecting our Infrastructure of Pipelines and Enhancing Safety (PIPES) Act, authored by Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials Subcommittee Chairman Jeff Denham (R-Turlock), was adopted June 8 in the U.S. House of Representatives through the passage of an amendment to S. 2276, the SAFE PIPES Act. The House amendment strikes the text of the Senate bill and replaces it with an amendment that includes text from the PIPES Act of 2016 (H.R. 4937). This will be the final House action on the bill and is expected to be cleared by the President and signed into law.

California Gas Price Hike Above National Average

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have risen 4.1 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.74/gallon on Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has increased 2.4 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.38/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Oakdale Shelter Dog Finds Forever Home

A young Catahoula mix, about two years old, had been at the Oakdale Animal Shelter for a few weeks waiting to be adopted. He arrived at the shelter as a stray and after several attempts to find his owner, the dog was placed with the other shelter pets and made available for adoption.

Toastmasters Set Session

Residents who want to improve their public speaking skills are encouraged to join with the REO Speechtrain Toastmasters Club for regular meetings every Wednesday morning, 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., at Perko's Cafe, Patterson and Oakdale roads, Riverbank. Students Now In Rehearsal For ‘YES’ Les Miserables

Stanislaus County Office of Education's YES (Youth Entertainment Stage) Company is producing the classic musical "Les Miserables, School Edition" to be performed at the Gallo Center for the Arts in Modesto. Tickets are now on sale at the Gallo Center for the Arts box office and online at www.galloarts.org. Performances are slated for 7:30 p.m. on Fridays, July 22 and 29 as well as Thursday, July 28; with 3 p.m. shows on Saturdays, July 23 and 30; Sundays, July 24 and 31.

Oakdale SEAL Team Travels To Southern California Event

Members of the OHS SEAL team traveled to Coronado, CA recently for the sixth annual Navy Seal Challenge. The Oakdale team had been training since November, so expectations were high this year. The Navy Seal Challenge is a competition between high schools from all over California and is a test of strength, endurance, and mental toughness, patterned after actual SEAL training exercises. This year the Oakdale team had several financial sponsors including Allcare IPA and SaveMart, which helped defray the cost of training and traveling to So Cal.
