In 2004, Thomas P. Hallinan accepted a contract with Oakdale officials that effectively made him city attorney and included retirement benefits, as well as other benefits given to all employees of the city's management and confidential unit. Some in the city have taken issue with that arrangement.

Season's First Air Alert Begins Monday

The Valley air basin's first seasonal Air Alert will begin Monday, Aug. 20 and continue through Tuesday, Aug. 21, with the possibility of being extended. This includes the counties of San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Merced, Madera, Fresno, Kings, Tulare and the Valley air basin portion of Kern.

Wanted Shooter Arrested

A man wanted for two separate shootings in Oakdale, being a member of a street gang, and a felon in possession of a firearm was arrested by Stanislaus County sheriff's deputies and a sheriff canine after a brief chase and extensive search late Thursday into early Friday morning, Aug. 17.

National Night Out, Tuesday, Aug. 7 was a night of fun for several Stanislaus County communities, including Valley Home and Oakdale, with both locations participating in the event. Eight Candidates Join Council Race

Two council incumbents, a former mayor, both the current and former treasurer, a community volunteer and two others have met the final deadline for three city council positions available in the November election, the Oakdale City Clerk's Office announced on Friday, Aug. 10. Two of the seats are full four-year posts and one is only a two-year period to fill out the term of Jason Howard, who resigned his seat last April due to outside-the-area job interests.
