Caltrans Appoints New Strategic Chief

Caltrans recently announced the appointment of Blair Thompson to be its first Chief of Innovation, Risk and Strategic Management. Thompson will oversee a newly created office, tasked with developing ways to streamline and improve department performance. In addition, Thompson will manage and implement the 2015-2020 Strategic Management Plan, as well as additional innovation initiatives and risk management projects.

Small Hike Seen In Local Gas Price

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have risen 4.3 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.62/gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has increased 2.1 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.37/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Bank Announces Three Promotions

Several Oakdale residents took advantage of the free sand and bags offered outside the East G Street fire station on Friday, loading up bags in preparation for the series of wet winter storms rolling through the region. Some four inches of rain fell between Friday and Monday, with more rain forecast for Wednesday and Thursday before clearing skies on Friday.

Veterans First Service Project Staged At Oakdale Academy

Oakdale Academy students showed their support for veterans and active service members by decorating care packages with their artwork, filling them with goodies, and sending them off overseas this past Friday. Kindergarten through third grade teacher Paula Roberts, in her first year at the Academy, has her students participate in a service project each trimester and the one they just completed was the veterans' service project. They began this project in November for Veterans' Day and continued it this month sending off packages.

Fire Protection Board Sets Thursday Session

The first regular meeting of the new year for the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District Board is set for Thursday, Jan. 12 at 6 p.m. The session will be in the Station 26 meeting room at 3318 Topeka St. and include recognition of outgoing Board of Directors member Shayne Strasser and a badge pinning for threw new firefighter paramedics.

Sandbags Available At Fire Station

Flooding and heavy rain is expected over the course of this weekend through next week. Oakdale Public Works will have sandbags available to Oakdale residents at OFD Station 1 at 325 E. G St. in the parking lot facing Yosemite Avenue adjacent to their annex building. There will be sand, bags and shovels for the public to use.
