A variety of photos show just some of the damage that last week's wet and windy storms brought to the region. A historic tree was toppled by the wind and came down on the roof and porch of the City of Oakdale Museum and History Center, causing some damage. Calling all artists, builders, creators, designers, engineers, inventors, makers and tinkerers: Stanislaus County Office of Education (SCOE) will hold its first ever "Maker Hoopla" in Modesto this May and is currently seeking submissions to exhibit from the community. Would-be exhibitors are encouraged to design an exhibit that is interactive, exciting, hands-on, and appropriate for students in grades K-6. Students can also apply to exhibit (as long as there will be an adult sponsor present). Any adults can submit to exhibit as well.

To qualify for the opportunity to showcase their flavorful products, olive oil must be made from the most recent olive harvest; deadline to enter is March 24, 2017.

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have fallen 2.3 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.62/gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has fallen 3.2 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.30/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

After more than a year of construction and renovation, Astoria Senior Living can now accommodate 45 seniors who need assisted living or memory care in the Oakdale area. Located at 700 Laurel Avenue, Astoria Senior Living remained open and served as many as 18 residents throughout the process.

Community members are invited to attend the Stanislaus County Music Festival on Friday, Jan. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 28 at the Modesto Junior College Auditorium. The festival kicks off at 7 p.m. on Friday with the high school and junior high school Honor Choir. At 2 p.m. on Saturday, the high school and junior high school Honor Orchestra will perform, with the festival concluding Saturday evening with the high school and junior high school Honor Band performing at 7 p.m. There is no charge for admission.
