The City of Oakdale has entered into a "separation agreement" with former Public Works Supervisor Mark Ozbirn, who had a pending lawsuit with the city from 2015.

Homecoming Fun For Mustangs

It was a busy, fun and festive week leading up to a pair of basketball games and crowning of Homecoming Royalty in Oakdale this week. The events were staged as part of a rally on Friday and the varsity girls and boys basketball teams were in action that night. That's also when the courts were presented to the crowd and the new royalty named.

City Council Advised Of Citrus Pest Threat

Both the Stanislaus County Agriculture Commissioner and a member of the California Department of Food and Agriculture were on hand Tuesday night, Jan. 19 to update Oakdale City Council members on the current threat of the Asian Citrus Psyllid, ACP, a pest recently located in the city.

Heather Sherburn, a former principal at Modesto's Orville Wright Elementary School, and an educator for 27 years, will be the guest speaker addressing the topic, "Supporting Children – Community, Peace and Children's Rights: One Educator's Perspective." Arrest Made In Afternoon Stabbing

Oakdale Police were called to the scene of a stabbing of a 25-year-old man at a convenience store located in the 900 block of S. Yosemite Avenue on Friday, Jan. 14. Police later arrested the female suspect walking away from the scene and, with the use of a police canine, located the knife used to commit the assault.

Continued Decline Seen In National Pump Prices

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have fallen 7.9 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.46/gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has fallen 6.5 cents per gallon in the last week to $1.90/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Orange Blossom 4-H Members Excel In Public Speaking Contest

Four Orange Blossom 4-H members competed in the Stanislaus County 4-H Creed Contest on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016 at the Stanislaus County Ag Center. The 4-H Creed is written by an anonymous author, and is about members using their head, heart, hands, and health to be good citizens. There are divisions by age, and categories are those who choose to read the Cred and those who choose to recite it from memory.

Calendar Fundraiser Ongoing

The first month of 2016 is rapidly winding down, but calendars featuring artwork by local students and celebrating salmon are still available. Community Coming Together For Local Make-A-Wish Effort

Members of the Oakdale community and surrounding areas are coming together for a charitable cause. Dr. Christina Chan and Oakdale Mixed Martial Arts Academy, along with other businesses, are joining up to lend a hand in helping a local youngster's wish come true. Organizers said a 4-year-old girl, with optical cancer, has been selected for a wish through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Her name and that of her wish are not yet being disclosed but will be at a later date.

Car Seat Check-Up Set For County Residents

Stanislaus County Health Services Agency (HSA) and its Keep Baby Safe (KBS) Program will conduct a free child safety seat check event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23. The safety checks will be held in the Learning Institute parking lot, 917 Oakdale Road, Modesto. Trained car seat technicians will be on site to assist the public in making sure children are riding in an appropriate car seat for their age, weight and height.
