Entertainment Due At JH Ranch

Country stars hit the stage this Saturday, Aug. 29 for the seventh annual Sierra View Music Festival at JH Ranch in Oakdale. The funds raised at the event will support the Heidi Brunk Foundation, which offers students in the Central Valley an opportunity for a music scholarship.

Douglas Is Finalist In FFA Proficiency

Come October of this year, Logan Douglas will be headed to Louisville, Kentucky. The OHS Class of 2014 alum however, will not be making the trek with Agriculture teacher Isaac Robles for vacation. Douglas will be en route as one of four finalists for a national Future Farmers of America proficiency award.

Teen Enjoys Taste Of Firefighting Life

When summer came after Tyler Gunkel finished eighth grade, and before he started his freshman year at Oakdale High School, the 14-year-old figured he wanted to do more with his free time than stay at home tied to a computer or television. Too young to get a paying summer job, Tyler thought about volunteering his time at the city's nearby fire station on G Street – a short bike ride away.

Cops Bust House Of Beef Burglars

Oakdale Police arrested two local subjects for a weekend burglary that occurred at Medlen's House of Beef where the restaurant's safe and between $4,000 to $5,000 was taken in an overnight break-in.

Denham Hosts Military Academy Info Night

U.S. Representative Jeff Denham (R-Turlock) will hold a United States Military Academy Information Night on Tuesday, Aug. 25. The event will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Big Valley Christian High School in Modesto and give students interested in applying to one of the United States military academies an overview of the nomination process.

Columbia College Earns Fire Academy Accreditation

The California State Board of Fire Services has unanimously approved the accreditation of the Columbia College Fire Academy. Shane Warner, Fire Technology Program Coordinator at Columbia College, with the support of Columbia College´s administration, industry advisors, Department of Forestry and Fire Protection - Office of the State Fire Marshal, CAL FIRE, and other local and state fire agencies played a major role in helping the Fire Academy to obtain this prestigious accreditation.

Public Hearing For ACE, Amtrak Expansion

Assemblymember Adam Gray, who serves as the chair of the Assembly Select Committee on Rail, will be hosting a special public hearing on the existing passenger rail services in the San Joaquin Valley on Friday, Aug. 21 at 10 a.m. at the Modesto City Council/Stanislaus County Chambers (1010 10th St., Basement Chambers) in downtown Modesto. The focus of this Assembly Select Committee on Rail hearing will be on promoting the near-term improvement and expansion of the successful San Joaquin and Altamont Corridor Express (ACE) rail services.
