Honors Awarded To Oakdale Officers For Heroic Actions

Six Oakdale police officers and two Senior Outreach volunteers were recently honored with department meritorious medals for life-saving actions in the course of duty. One officer, Dan Taylor, received recognition for two separate incidents. Following is a brief recap of the actions that resulted in the honors.

Pet Alliance Leashes Up For Strut Your Mutt Event

The Oakdale Shelter Pet Alliance Strut Your Mutt Team is leashing up and heading to San Francisco on Sunday, Sept. 18 to strut their stuff to help the homeless pets of Oakdale and Riverbank. Thanks to support from animal loving friends and supporters, last year's event resulted in a lot of wagging tails and money raised for Oakdale Shelter Pet Alliance. OSPA raised over $20,000 and was the top fundraising team at the San Francisco event.

Rotary Wine Extravaganza Fundraiser Slated This Saturday

The Seventh Annual Wine Extravaganza, hosted by the Oakdale Rotary Club in conjunction with the Oakdale Golf and Country Club, is slated for Saturday, Sept. 10 beginning at 6 p.m. at the OGCC grounds.

Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Selects New District Chief

After a nationwide recruitment and selection process that began earlier this year, the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District Board of Directors has named its new fire chief. Board President Shayne Strasser made the announcement this past week.

The Oakdale Irrigation District is in line to get a $3 million grant courtesy of the State Water Resources Control Board, which the district anticipates applying toward automation and improvements of over 17 miles of lateral canals.

Steady Prices At Pump

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have not moved in the past week, averaging $2.46/gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has increased 3.4 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.21/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Fall Membership Brunch Offered By Local AAUW

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) Oakdale-Riverbank-Escalon Branch will host its annual Fall Membership Brunch on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 9 a.m. to noon in Oakdale. AAUW is the nation's leading organization advocating equity for women and girls. Graduates holding an associates or higher degree from an institution of the AAUW list of qualified institutions and persons holding an honorary degree are eligible for membership in AAUW.
