Life Jacket Giveaway Friday

The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department has received a grant from the California State Department of Health "Kid Plates" of 300 children sized life jackets. With the assistance of Safe Kids Stanislaus County a water safety education course will be provided, and life jackets will be given away to children under 18 years of age from low-income families.

Woodward Drowning Claims Modesto Man

A 51-year-old Modesto man, identified by Stanislaus County officials as John Nelson, drowned at Woodward Reservoir on Monday afternoon. Several 9-1-1 calls were received at the sheriff's department about 1:45 p.m. Monday, June 19 reporting a possible drowning at Woodward, in Area BB on the east side of the reservoir.

All-Star Football

Tis the season for All-Star football games in the Valley and the State Champion Oakdale Mustangs are riding into them. This past week Cullen Bearden was named Defensive MVP in the South's 30-17 victory over the North in the 44th annual Central California Lions Club All-Star Football Game in Tracy. The South squad was down 17-0 at the half, but Bearden and company rallied in the second half to take the win.
