Oakdale Women Gearing Up For New Year Of Activities

The 2016-2017 board members of the Oakdale Women's Club recently hosted a Get Acquainted Tea for new members at the Oakdale Golf and Country Club. This was an opportunity for new members to meet the Board and to ask questions about the activities and opportunities to participate on various committees. Co-President Sandee Polterock and Membership Chair Sandy Dyer hosted the event.

California Rangeland Trust, a land trust that works to conserve California's working ranches, announced it has achieved renewed accreditation - a mark of distinction in land conservation. The Land Trust Accreditation Commission awarded renewed accreditation, signifying its confidence that California Rangeland Trust's lands will be protected forever.

ACE Receives Grant To Aid Modernization

The Altamont Corridor Express (ACE) was awarded $16,459,000 by the State of California through the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) as part of the Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program (TIRCP) 2016 Awards. These funds are dispersed by the State to fund capital improvements and operational investments that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and modernize California's intercity rail, and bus and rail transit systems.

Ceres Police Officer Crashes In Oakdale

A Ceres Police Officer driving in Oakdale on his way to work in a marked K-9 unit was involved in a solo-vehicle crash with a power pole early Thursday morning, Aug. 18, causing thousands of residents in the area to temporarily lose power.

New Transportation Funding Benefits Regional Projects

Continuing the push to rebuild and maintain California's infrastructure, the California Transportation Commission (CTC) has allocated $814 million to 135 transportation projects that will alleviate traffic delays, repair aging roads and bridges and encourage bicycling and walking. This includes 34 biking and pedestrian projects throughout the state that will receive $12.1 million in allocations from the Active Transportation Program.

TOE TAPPIN’ TIME

The music of Remedy filled the air on Friday night, as the Concerts in the Park series continued at Oakdale's Dorada Park, offered through the Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with local sponsors. In the photos, the band croons a tune while, their drummer keeps the beat and, below, people packed in food, beverages and even plenty of family pets to enjoy the Friday night summer sounds. The final concert in the series is coming up this week, Aug. 26, with The Lodge Pole Pickers performing starting at 6:30 p.m.

Countywide Transit System Implements Service Changes

Stanislaus County's Public Works Transit Division, which manages the Stanislaus Regional Transit (StaRT), has just implemented service changes on bus routes throughout Stanislaus County. The changes, which took effect Monday, Aug. 22, include a brand new 45-foot commuter bus that will transport riders from the western part of the county to the Dublin/Pleasanton BART Station. The Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors approved these service changes along with approval of the Fiscal Year 2016-2017 annual Transportation Development Act Claims at a board meeting earlier this summer.

Council Seeks To Bypass Election

With only the incumbents seeking reelection to two city council seats and the city clerk's office, and with no one opposing them on the ballot, the City of Oakdale will have a special city council meeting on Thursday, Aug. 25 for the purpose of appointing the candidates rather than hold an election. Officials expect the move to save the city thousands of dollars in election costs.
