Action Packed Weekend At Stockton Arena

Superheroes, monsters and wizards; oh my! That was the scene at Stockton Arena this past weekend for the sixth annual Stockton Con. Vendors from around the country packed the arena floor, while celebrities were offering meet and greet opportunities with their fans on the second floor.

Shelter Adoptee Sniffs Her Way To Top Honors

Dazzle, a six-and-a-half year-old cattle dog adopted from the Oakdale Animal Shelter, sniffed her way to first place and a NW3 title at a NACSW (National Association of Canine Scent Work) K9 Nose Work competition in Pacific Palisades earlier this month. Dazzle competed with 29 other dogs of various breeds from Border Collies to Pomeranians and several mixed breeds. She had the fastest combined time of all the dogs entered in the trial as well as finding all the hides in four different searches.

California Day Of Preparedness Slated

The California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is hosting the 12th annual California Day of Preparedness on Saturday, Aug. 26. The day encourages Californians to take steps to prepare for emergencies or disasters in their homes, businesses, schools and communities. This free, family-friendly event is powered by Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E).

Transportation Commission Authorizes SB1 Project Funds

Caltrans announced on Thursday, Aug. 17 that 32 major "fix-it-first" transportation projects can be accelerated a year earlier than planned thanks to anticipated funding from Senate Bill 1 (SB 1), the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017. The advancement is possible due to nearly $690 million in funding authorized by the California Transportation Commission (CTC).

Reduce Vehicle Emissions With Kids Back In School

Pollution from back-to-school traffic could cause a spike in ozone. With school back in session the Valley Air District is asking the public to reduce vehicle emissions by carpooling or walking their children to school and to refrain from vehicle idling during school pick-ups and drop-offs. Triple-digit temperatures and multiple wildfires may also impact Valley air quality, and the public's help is crucial in reducing the risk of spikes in ground-level ozone and exceeding federal air quality standards.

Speaker Alejandro Carrillo, far right, joined community members and leaders to denounce racism at a rally aimed at unity Monday evening, Aug. 21 at the Community Center Plaza.
