Public Hearing For ACE, Amtrak Expansion

Assemblymember Adam Gray, who serves as the chair of the Assembly Select Committee on Rail, will be hosting a special public hearing on the existing passenger rail services in the San Joaquin Valley on Friday, Aug. 21 at 10 a.m. at the Modesto City Council/Stanislaus County Chambers (1010 10th St., Basement Chambers) in downtown Modesto. The focus of this Assembly Select Committee on Rail hearing will be on promoting the near-term improvement and expansion of the successful San Joaquin and Altamont Corridor Express (ACE) rail services.

Dollar General Hosts Grand Opening Event

Residents on the west end of town now have yet another place where they can purchase a gallon of milk or even a quart of motor oil. Earlier this month Dollar General at 921 W. F St., Oakdale opened its doors for a 'soft opening.'

New Teachers Join Junior High Staff

This summer as the students were busy shopping for back to school essentials, Melody Higgins and Dave Schmitt were equally busy preparing their classrooms as newly appointed teaching staff for the OJUSD.

Taste Of Oakdale Tuesday

The date is getting closer and time is running out to buy advance tickets for the Seventh Annual "Taste of Oakdale" sponsored by the Oakdale Chamber of Commerce. Date for the event is Tuesday, Aug. 25 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Bianchi Community Center.

Campbell Ready For OTA Duties

Oakdale Play Park Revitalization Project

The Oakdale Children's Play Park, in Dorada Park on the corner of East A Street and North Second Avenue, was a vison of Dorene Splitsone in 1992. Through Dorene's determination and drive and with the help of the community, the Oakdale Children's Play Park became a reality in October 1993.

City OKs $34K For Firefighters

After the Oakdale City Council authorized replacement of $37,000 worth of outdated critical fire equipment on Monday, Aug. 17, the council also agreed to pay $34,094 as its part of increased administrative and overhead costs with the addition of three full-time firefighters. The positions were added to the line staff of the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District as a result of a recently obtained federal grant.

Area Motorists Pleased With Pump Price Decline

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have fallen 4.8 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.17/gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has increased 8.5 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.68/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Councilman Dunlop Appointed To LAFCO

After the July removal of Hughson Mayor Matt Beekman from the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO), Stanislaus County mayors on Wednesday, Aug. 12 appointed Oakdale City Councilman Tom Dunlop to the vacant seat of the agency that creates new cities and special districts, changes boundaries, reorganizes local agencies, and performs municipal service reviews.

Raley’s Drive Raises Over $600,000

Raley's Food For Families Summer Fresh Drive raised an unprecedented $601,950, a full 30 percent increase over last year's total.
