Teacher Career Fair Slated For March 25

The Stanislaus County Office of Education (SCOE) is hosting a Teacher Recruitment Job Fair on Saturday, March 25 from 8:30 a.m. to noon at SCOE's downtown offices, 1100 H St., Modesto. This year's job fair is open to fully-credentialed teachers or intern-eligible candidates and credential completion candidates by August 2017 (verified by Program Completion letter or Intern Eligible letter) who pre-register on-line by Wednesday, March 18 at www.edjoin.org.

Gas Prices Dip Down In Northern California

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have fallen 3.6 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.60/gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has fallen 3.3 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.26/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

UOP Forecast Predicts Economy Holds Steady

The California economy should maintain solid 2.6 percent growth in 2017 with the unemployment rate holding steady at 5.4 percent as job growth decelerates to 1.6 percent according to the latest projection from the Center for Business and Policy Research at the University of the Pacific. Beyond 2017, growth is expected to slow as the initial boost from anticipated tax cuts and deficit spending under President Trump fades and reduced federal healthcare spending, reduced immigration and international trade, and a rising dollar and interest rates curb growth.
