VALLEY HOME HALLOWEEN

The Valley Home General Store had a table with a bag of treats for each Valley Home student that made their way by the store during the annual Halloween Parade on Tuesday, Oct. 31. A Power Ranger was patiently waiting as the parade of youngsters traveled through the general store to grab their goodies. The kids also enjoyed a parade through the community, part of a festive Halloween celebration. Many schools in the area had similar events.

Oakdale, Central Catholic Vie For VOL Championship

The moment football fans have waited patiently for has arrived. This Friday night, the Mustangs and Raiders go to battle for the Valley Oak League championship. Friday, Nov. 3, 2017 has been circled on many calendars since the schedule was released earlier this summer. Both Oakdale and Central Catholic enter the regular season finale undefeated in league play, and want the bragging rights heading into the postseason.

Final Month To Apply For SBA Disaster Loans

Director Tanya N. Garfield of the U.S. Small Business Administration's Disaster Field Operations Center-West on Monday reminded small nonfarm businesses in 21 California counties of the Nov. 30, 2017, deadline to apply for an SBA federal disaster loan for economic injury. These low-interest loans are to offset economic losses because of reduced revenues caused by excessive rainfall and high winds that occurred March 3 through June 1, 2016.

State Gas Prices Higher Than National Average

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have fallen 4.7 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.78/gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has increased 0.6 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.45/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

MJC Offers Screening Of The White Helmets

The Modesto Junior College Civic Engagement Project (CEP) invites the community to a free screening of the documentary film The White Helmets on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. in Forum 110 on MJC's East Campus, 435 College Ave., Modesto. The event is part of the CEP Fall Film and Lecture Series. Campus parking is available for $2 in student parking lots.
