Big Jump Seen At Pump

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have risen 12.6 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.96/gallon Monday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has increased 23.8 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.64/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

North County Corridor Public Hearing Thursday

River Clean Up Aims To Bring Sparkle Back

The East Stanislaus Resource Conservation District will host the ninth annual Stanislaus River Cleanup from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 16 as part of the statewide Great Sierra River Clean Up. Fires Prompt Extension Of Health Caution

Three large wildfires, the Mission Fire in Madera County, the Pier Fire in Tulare County, and Railroad Fire in Madera/Mariposa counties, have prompted local air officials to extend the current health cautionary statement through the week. Currently smoke impacts are concentrated in the mountain and foothill areas of the air basin, but impacts on the Valley floor are possible until the fires are extinguished.

With record setting heat throughout the state, CAL FIRE officials are urging Californians to be extra careful with their outdoor plans this holiday weekend. As Labor Day weekend rolls in, millions of people will take advantage of this holiday to visit beaches, parks, and campgrounds. In anticipation of the increased outdoor activities, CAL FIRE is asking everyone to be extra vigilant in preventing wildfires.

Weather Forces Later Kickoff

Mustang football will truly be played under the lights this Friday, Sept. 1. Oakdale's home game against El Capitan has been rescheduled for later in the evening. Normally kicking off at 5 p.m. the junior varsity will now play its home game at 6 p.m. with the varsity to follow. Current scheduled time for varsity is 8 p.m. This is just one of many local high school football games that were rescheduled due to the weather conditions, including extremely high daytime temperatures.
