Registration On For Fete Runs

On Saturday, July 16 the Escalon Park Fete 2-mile and 10k runs are scheduled, with sign ups going on now. There will be several age brackets, with medals for top overall finishers, male and female, in each race in each age group. ShadowChase Running Club is coordinating the runs.

Special Park Fete Fundraiser Slated

Tickets Available For Fete Drawings

Escalon Historical Society will have three paintings available in their annual Park Fete drawing. Tickets are $5 each and the drawing will take place at the museum at 2 p.m. on Park Fete Saturday, July 16. Paintings offered include a pair of water colors painted by Nora Lee Vest and donated by surviving members of her family. One is titled 'Ducks Take Off' and the other is 'Marsh Ducks Arrive.' The third painting is by Ethel Kalbach and depicts a country homestead with a barn and grassy fields. Tickets can be purchased at the museum on Main Street.

The Escalon Lions Club, winner of the Community Organization category in the 2016 Readers' Choice program, was chartered from Lions Clubs International in 1946. Lions are an international organization whose purpose is to help the less fortunate and improve communities throughout the world through volunteer efforts. The Lions motto is "We Serve."

Asian Citrus Psyllid Detected In County

The Stanislaus County Agricultural Commissioner, in cooperation with the California Department of Food and Agriculture are conducting an extensive survey program in response to the detection of one Asian citrus psyllid (ACP) in a lemon tree on a residential property within the City of Modesto in Stanislaus County. This is the fourth detection of ACP in the County, two psyllids were found in Turlock in October 2015 and a single psyllid was found in Oakdale in December 2015.

Holiday Traffic Sees Gas Price Drop

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have fallen 3.4 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.66/gallon Sunday, July 10 according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has fallen 3.4 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.23/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
