Civil War Battles Staged In Knights Ferry

The annual reenactment of the Civil War was staged over the weekend in Knights Ferry, with a pair of battles on Saturday and two more on Sunday. The realistic fire fights saw cannons booming across the valley, soldiers making their way through the bright green grassy hillsides of the Ferry and camps set up on both sides of the Stanislaus River.

Ceja Takes Title As Oakdale’s Distinguished Young Woman

The annual Distinguished Young Women of Oakdale program, sponsored by Soroptimist International of Oakdale, was held Saturday, March 11, at Magnolia School Auditorium. Oakdale High School senior and reigning Distinguished Young Woman Annalise VanderVeen passed her title to Gaby Ceja, a junior at Oakdale High School. In addition to the $2,500 scholarship for the title award, Gaby was awarded three $200 scholarships for the Scholastics, Interview, and Talent categories. Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have risen 3.6 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.80/gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto.
