New Sludge Spreading Permit Sought

The Stanislaus County Department of Environmental Resources will hold a meeting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 20 at the Gene Bianchi Community Center, 110 So. Second Ave., Oakdale to consider a request to issue a Stanislaus County Food Processing By-product Use permit to JND Thomas Co., Inc. for the land application of food processing by-products.

OID Considers Drilling Deep Wells

The Oakdale Irrigation District Board of Directors is seriously considering the prospect of drilling several deep wells for a variety of reasons including adding to water reliability, water sales confidence, but especially because there is concern about state legislation on the horizon that may put restrictions and regulations on drilling wells to tap groundwater.

2009 Year In Review - July To December

State budget woes affected the schools and the city, resulting in job losses and cuts across the board. The schools and the city heard concerns about student safety in the town's crosswalks. New people captured seats on the irrigation district and school district boards. The irrigation district gave farmers a full rebate on water taxes. Spreading Con Agra's pond sediment became a concern for citizens. Swine Flu (H1N1) took the life of a local. It snowed in Oakdale.

Each year the Oakdale Chamber of Commerce honors members of the community for Citizen of the Year, Junior Achievement, Community Service, Business of the Year and Lifetime Achievement. The purpose of these awards is to honor individuals, organizations and businesses who have worked unselfishly to improve our Oakdale community and help others. The Oakdale Police Department is retiring a man whose character speaks for itself. For the past 30 years, Lt. Vernon Gladney has personified integrity, honesty, and compassion and he has brought those personal values to everything he does, whether he's wearing the uniform, working with his church, or helping out a friend.

Toy Drive Delights 500 Children

For 500 local children Christmas Day was not without dolls, trucks, and Legos as the first ever police department sponsored toy drive not only delivered the goods, but the smiles as the community rallied to donate bins of new toys for the cause spearheaded by Senior Outreach Coordinator Ann Farmer.

New Hospital Construction On Budget

Making a quarterly report to the Oak Valley Hospital Board of Directors recently, the Citizen's Oversight Committee Chair, Mickey Peabody, reported that the committee is "satisfied with expenditure of funds and very pleased that the project remains ahead of schedule and on budget." A combination of favorable weather and diligent efforts by contractors was credited with the project being a month ahead of schedule.
