Relay 2015 In The Books

What started out under gloomy skies and the threat of rain turned in to a mostly mild, though windy, Relay For Life of Oakdale. The 14th annual event, staged through the American Cancer Society, brought hundreds of people to the soccer fields at Oakdale High School on Saturday and Sunday, April 25 and 26.

Farmers Market Adds “Twist”

Opening Wednesday, May 6, the Oakdale Farmers Market provides the community with an abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables as well as products that are grown and produced locally. The market, being overseen by the Oakdale Tourism and Visitors Bureau will run every Wednesday, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. until Sept. 2.

County Moves To Shut Medical Pot Shop

Stating that Kiona's Farm'acy, just outside the Oakdale city limits, falsified its business license application and calling it a "marijuana dispensary," the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday, April 21 to file a lawsuit to close down the business.

Interupted Burglary Leads To Chase, Manhunt, And Arrest

An interrupted residential burglary in the Del Rio area off Stewart Road and McHenry Avenue on Wednesday, April 29, led to a high speed chase with the vehicle being discarded outside of Oakdale off Rodden Road. The suspect fled on foot and swam across the Stanislaus River back into the city causing police to lock down the area as sheriff's units conducted a neighborhood search for the man.

Mosquito Abatement Efforts Under Way

The California State Legislature has declared the week of April 19 as "West Nile Virus and Mosquito and Vector Control Awareness Week." Stanislaus County health officials have announced mosquito surveillance and control activities have been initiated by Eastside Mosquito Abatement District and Turlock Mosquito Abatement District. Residents are urged to play their part by eliminating standing water on their property and informing their local mosquito abatement district if they are being bitten by mosquitoes. West Nile virus has already been detected within California this year, most notably in neighboring Alameda and Santa Clara counties, along with Los Angeles County.

Drivers See Slight Hike At Gas Pump

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have risen 3.5 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.92/gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has increased 6.6 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.45/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
