Jacob Myers Park Welcomes Waterways Tour

California Department of Parks and Recreation Boating and Waterways Commission member Virginia Madueño invited several community members to participate in a tour of local waterways recently that also included State staff and commissioners throughout California. The purpose of the tour was to view potential sites for future funding through the Boating and Waterways Commission.

Compassionate Friends Plans Annual Candle Lighting

The death of a child is devastating and it's important to the family that the child always be remembered. That's why members of The Compassionate Friends (TCF) of the Modesto-Riverbank Area will participate in an annual worldwide event designed to honor the memories of all children, regardless of age, who have died. The Chapter is joining in Sunday, Dec. 10 with hundreds of organized memorial services around the world for The Compassionate Friends 21st annual Worldwide Candle Lighting, an event now believed to be the largest mass candle lighting in the world.

Film Competition Offered

College and high school student filmmakers can save $10 on submission fees by submitting their short films in a local competition by the Friday, Dec. 15, earlybird deadline. The Student Film Festival will be held March 17, 2018, at the Grand Theatre Center for the Arts in Tracy. For submission rules go to grandfoundation.org/events/film. The final deadline for film submissions is Jan. 5, 2018. The Grand Foundation will present $6,750 in awards for the best student films.

‘Ride Or Die’ Tour Hits Bob Hope Theatre

Modern day Country artist Dustin Lynch will roll into Stockton headlining his 'Ride or Die' Tour on Thursday, Dec. 7 at the Bob Hope Theatre at 6:30 p.m. with special guest Ryan Hurd. His third studio album Current Mood was released in September and the Ride or Die Tour kicked off earlier this month. Before the album was released "Seein' Red" and "Small Town Boy" were both certified Gold.

Military Youth Eligible To Receive $10,000

The deadline is fast approaching for youth ages 13 to 18 in military families to get in the running for a $10,000 cash prize, a trip to Washington, D.C., and other donated gifts in the Military Child of the Year Awards competition. Operation Homefront, a national nonprofit with the mission of building strong, stable, and secure military families, will accept nominations for the 2018 Military Child of the Year Awards as well as applications for the 2018 Military Child of the Year Award for Innovation through Monday, Dec. 4.

Pet Photos Offered With Santa At Petco

The Oakdale Shelter Pet Alliance (OSPA) will be at Petco on Saturday, Dec. 2 for a voucher and adoption event with a special visit from Santa. Capture the moment with a photo of your pet and Santa from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Petco will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Oakdale Animal Shelter, which services both Oakdale and Riverbank. The OSPA will have vouchers on hand for those interested along with a couple of furry friends available for adoption from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
