Oakdale High School Drama students under the direction of drama instructor Bryan Mills plan to stage Disney's Beauty and The Beast. The musical is based on the classic French fairy tale. It tells the story of Belle (played by Darby Schmidt) an intelligent young woman scorned by her townspeople for being a bookworm, weary of fighting off the advances of the arrogant Gaston (Thomas Mason) and dreaming of escape. Seniors Reign Supreme In Powder Puff Action

After last year's "tie" during the Homecoming Week Powder Puff game, this year's senior group wanted to make sure there was not any question about the outcome. Wednesday night in The Corral the senior girls defeated the junior squad 28-6 in the 2017 OHS Powder Puff game.

Bloomingcamp Ranch Harvest Festival A Hit

Valley weather proved made to order last Saturday and Sunday, as Bloomingcamp Ranch hosted its Annual Harvest Festival. Foot traffic stayed steady between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on both days, with the largest attendance appearing to be on Saturday.

State, National Gas Prices Still Declining

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have fallen 2.7 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.90/gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has fallen 6.0 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.47/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

TRAFFIC IMPACT

Oakdale Police issued a Friday afternoon advisory, Oct. 6, that due to a traffic accident involving a power pole the roadway at East G Street and South Fifth Avenue, northbound and southbound Sixth Avenue and eastbound G at Grove Street was closed. Police and emergency services personnel were called to the scene about 1:30 p.m. Friday; PG&E crews also responded to deal with the damaged power pole.

Utility Relocation Along River Road

A project running now through Friday, Oct. 13, will see PG&E crews relocating utilities on River Road as part of the McHenry Avenue improvement project just outside Escalon, near the San Joaquin-Stanislaus County line. This work will take place east of the intersection during the daytime hours.

DREAM IT CONFERENCE

Local service organization Soroptimist International of Oakdale is sponsoring a "Dream It, Be It" conference for seventh through tenth grade girls who reside in Oakdale. The free conference will be held on Saturday, Oct. 21 at Oakdale High School's library from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. AWARENESS MONTH

The Century 21 M&M and Associates team hosted a breast cancer awareness event on Friday, kicking off October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Fran Krieger Farmers Insurance employees hosted Oakdale's Wandering Barista mobile coffee trailer, offering complimentary beverages to attendees at the kickoff event. Century 21 M&M and Associates partnered with Susan G. Komen Organization for their breast cancer awareness event; a pink mobile breast cancer screening bus was brought on site, offering mammography screenings.
