Mid-Cal Blue Star Moms members Michelle Meade and Barbara Aceves were on hand with an informational booth on Saturday in neighboring Escalon at that community's annual Lions Club Car Show, with pictures for kids to color to include with care packages being prepared for sending to troops overseas. Aceves is a member of the group and Meade is the treasurer; both have children serving in the military. Prices Still Rising At Pump

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have risen 4.7 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.01/gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has increased 1.8 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.65/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Knights Ferry News

Music filled the streets of town all weekend as Sheather Fest brought in musicians from all over the world. It was warm but a lot cooler than last weekend's temperatures. Festival goers were invited to bring blankets and low-back chairs to sit on a grass hill at The River's Edge restaurant as bands preformed on stage with the river as a backdrop.

Care Center Wildlife Day

The Stanislaus Wildlife Care Center celebrates its anniversary every fall with Day with Wildlife. This year it is their 33rd anniversary. All are invited to come see some of their educational animals up close and personal. There will be BBQ tri tip sandwiches, hot dogs, ice cream sundaes, face painting, T-shirts for sale, raffle drawings, bake sale, kid's crafts, and even wild barn owl pellets to dissect. There is no admission charge.

Library Foundation Hosts Local Teen Author

The Stanislaus Library Foundation will host Modesto author Juliana Presto at its annual Author's Garden Gala on Saturday, Sept. 23. The gala will take place at 6 p.m. at the Modesto home of Ginger and Kent Johnson. All proceeds will benefit children's programs at the library's 13 branches countywide, including the Summer Reading program, which serves more than 10,000 school-age children each year.
