Some 100 people attended a dedication ceremony of the new Irish Hunger Memorial in Eugene's Saint Joseph's Cemetery on Saturday, Sept. 10. The memorial was the concept of the Irish Cultural Society of Stanislaus County and the San Francisco Chapter of the Irish American Unity Conference.

The East Stanislaus Resource Conservation District is hosting the eighth annual Stanislaus River Cleanup from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 17 as part of the statewide Great Sierra River Clean Up. Volunteers will converge on the river to haul away cigarette butts, broken bottles, tires, and more.

Oakdale Equine Rescue is prepared to establish tradition. The 501(c)3 not for profit will host the Second Annual Benefit Barn Bash on Friday, Sept. 23 at the Gene Bianchi Community Center in Oakdale. Doors open for the event at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $35 each or $250 for a table of eight. Stanislaus County Health Services Agency's Keep Baby Safe Program will conduct a child safety car seat inspection event from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 10. The safety checks will be held at the Oakdale High School staff parking lot, located at 739 West G Street, Oakdale. Trained car seat technicians will be on site to assist the public in making sure children are riding in the appropriate seat for their age, weight and height.

The Orange Blossom 4-H Club will host its first meeting of the school year on Monday, September 12, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. at the Knights Ferry Community Center. The night will start with an ice cream social and sign-ups will be after. All young people are welcome, and over thirty projects will be offered for members to choose this year. The new 2016-17 Stanislaus County Leadership Academy will be having its first class meeting at the Petersen Event Center, 720 12th St., Modesto on Friday, Sept. 9. This first class will bring together 30 students representing 18 individual high schools throughout Stanislaus County who were chosen after a rigorous interview process. Matt Emerzian will present the Every Monday Matters movement and students will learn valuable communication skills while learning about and dealing with other personality traits.

The Oakdale Shelter Pet Alliance Strut Your Mutt Team is leashing up and heading to San Francisco on Sunday, Sept. 18 to strut their stuff to help the homeless pets of Oakdale and Riverbank. Thanks to support from animal loving friends and supporters, last year's event resulted in a lot of wagging tails and money raised for Oakdale Shelter Pet Alliance. OSPA raised over $20,000 and was the top fundraising team at the San Francisco event.
