Turlock Lake State Rec Area Closure Announced

Turlock Lake operators American Land and Leisure (AL&L) are closing the campground at Turlock Lake, 22600 Lake Road in La Grange. The purpose of this closure is to address concerns raised during campground safety evaluations. Inspections identified many dead trees within the campgrounds that pose an imminent danger to campers. A hazardous tree removal project was delayed due to extensive flooding of the campground and a rise in water levels upon the Tuolumne River. The closure will remain in effect until the hazardous trees have been removed from the campgrounds.

State Gas Prices Higher Than National Average

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have fallen 2.5 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.78/gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has increased 3.4 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.25/gallon, according to gasoline price website

Food Safety Discovery Zone At The California State Fair

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Food Safety Discovery Zone (FSDZ) will continue its national food safety education tour with an exhibition at the California State Fair in Sacramento, July 14 through 30. The FSDZ is a 40-foot long exhibit that provides visitors of all ages with interactive and fun experiences that teach them how to prevent foodborne illness when preparing food at home.

Library Available For Cooling

With temperatures on Saturday predicted to soar well past 100 degrees – inching up near 110, residents that need a break from the heat are encouraged to come in to the library for some cool air.
