The Modesto Junior College Civic Engagement Project (CEP) invites the community to a screening of the film "The Burden" on Thursday, April 14 at 7 p.m. in Forum 110 on East Campus, 435 College Ave., Modesto. The free event is part of the CEP Spring Film and Lecture Series. Campus parking is available for $2 in student parking lots.

Dr. Kathryn Sullivan, the Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), visited the Pacific Fishery Management Council (Council) meeting in Vancouver, Washington on Saturday, April 9 and addressed the Council, which is responsible for managing ocean fisheries off Washington, Oregon, and California. Dr. Sullivan is a distinguished scientist, astronaut, and explorer.

Looking for a good book? Librarians at the Oakdale Library are always happy to offer reading suggestions. And now, a good book is easier to find than ever. New books at the Oakdale Library will be featured on the first Wednesday of each month in the Oakdale Leader. Librarians will provide information about books for children and adults, both fiction and non-fiction.

The family of a teen shot and killed by police last July has filed a Wrongful Death Civil Rights lawsuit against the Pleasanton Police Department. John Deming Sr., a 10-year veteran police reserve officer with the Oakdale Police Department, is the father of the 19-year-old, John "Bubba" Deming Jr., and a plaintiff in the action.
