Foundation Walk Benefits Great Valley Museum

The Great Valley Museum Foundation at Modesto Junior College invites the community to "Walk for the Animals" on Saturday, May 5 from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the MJC West Campus, 2201 Blue Gum Ave., Modesto. The fundraising walk supports the care of the live animals in the Great Valley Museum. The 2.25 mile walk is open to all ages and will be held on the closed loop road on MJC's West Campus.

Congressional Candidates Meet In April 25 Forum

There will be a forum for candidates running for Representative to Congress, District 10, later this month. All candidates, Republican, Independent and Democrat have been invited. The forum will be Wednesday, April 25, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at Bianchi Community Center, 110 South Second Ave., Oakdale.

Chamber Hosts Successful Pours In Stores Event

Not to be put off by a little rain, the latest go-round of Pours in Stores, Eat Drink and Be Local, proved to be a resounding success on Thursday, April 5 for local businesses. Hosted by the Oakdale Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Valley First Credit Union and Academy Mortgage, 13 downtown merchants extended their hours and opened their doors to participate.

Disaster Recovery Funds Awarded Through HUD

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded $212,374,000 to support long-term disaster recovery in hard-hit areas in California. A total of $124,155,000 is dedicated for unmet needs and $88,219,000 for mitigation. These funds are provided through HUD's Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) Program and will address seriously damaged housing, businesses and infrastructure from major disasters that occurred in the state in 2017.

SIGN OF SPRING

Not always typical for April, the 'flooded' signs had to be put out in several locations around Oakdale during a two-day, two-inch 'Pineapple Express' rain storm that brought the wet weather to the region starting late Thursday and continuing in to early Saturday. Though the rain was much needed, it played havoc with some Spring Break sporting events and planned family activities as Friday was a total washout. It wasn't quite enough, though, to bring the area to its normal rainfall for the year.

SB 1 Money Allows Caltrans To Address Overdue Projects

Caltrans has submitted its 2018 State Highway Operations and Protection Program (SHOPP) to the California State Legislature. The four-year program contains nearly 1,000 projects. That equates to $18 billion worth of projects, and over $7 billion more than the 2016 SHOPP, due to the passage of Senate Bill 1 (SB 1), passed by the Legislature one year ago today. These projects are added to the list of thousands of state and local projects already planned, under construction or completed statewide.

Twain Harte Dog Parade

If you love dogs, you might want to bring your pooch to the Twain Harte Dog Parade on Saturday, April 28. It's a dog's day out. Registration starts at 10 a.m. with the parade downtown at 11 a.m. There is a $5 entry fee which goes to benefit local dog causes. It is a lot of fun for the dogs – many owners dress them up especially for this event – and their owners and families. Voucher Awards Program Designed To Aid Veterans

In a continued effort to end veteran homelessness, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) have announced $43 million to 325 local public housing agencies (PHAs) across the country to provide a permanent home to more than 5,200 veterans experiencing homelessness. The supportive housing assistance is provided through the HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) Program, which combines rental assistance from HUD with case management and clinical services provided by VA.
