State Duck Stamp Dollars Support Waterfowl Population

It might seem incongruous for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) to fund a habitat restoration project located somewhere outside of California. Yet, doing so is a very important part of biologists' efforts to protect and manage the approximately five million waterfowl that winter in California annually – and is a very important use of the conservation dollars provided by waterfowl hunters.

State Gas Price Falls Faster Than Average

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have fallen 5.7 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.56/gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has fallen 1.8 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.21/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Wildlife Activities Scheduled At Various Spots In November

Coming up on Saturday, Nov. 12, plan to make time to enjoy the Stanislaus River Salmon Festival, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at 17968 Covered Bridge Road in Knights Ferry. Red Ribbon Observance Urged By Highway Patrol

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) recognizes Red Ribbon Week, Oct. 23-31, as an excellent opportunity for families to have lifesaving conversations with their children about drug use. The Red Ribbon Campaign, organized by the National Family Partnership, is the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation.

Oakdale Substitute Teacher Sentenced To 180-Day Term

An Oakdale substitute teacher, arrested in 2013, was sentenced on Monday, Oct. 17, to 180 days in jail by a Stanislaus County Superior Court judge.

Halftime Honors 1996 Champs And Troops

A larger than usual crowd flocked to The Corral this past Friday night. Not only did the fans witness a varsity Mustangs 39-14 home win over visiting Weston Ranch, but they were also treated to Military Appreciation Night, also known as the Honor Bowl. And, topping it off, there was a special 20-year reunion for the 1996 CIF Section Championship Mustangs football team.

HALLOWEEN HAPPENINGS

The City of Oakdale has once again partnered with Kiwanis Club of Oakdale for the Annual Halloween Parade and Festival. The event will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., beginning with the annual parade. The parade begins at the Youth Building, 297 Gilbert Ave., next to OHS. Line up is at 4:30 p.m., the parade heads from there east along G Street to the Gene Bianchi Community Center at South Second Avenue. The festival will include crafts, face painting, costume contest and a complimentary hot dog, chips and drink dinner.

Soccer League Grapples With Charity Status Loss

After the scandal of one of its volunteers getting arrested on suspicion of embezzlement earlier this year, the Oakdale Youth Soccer League faces another financial blow as it is now operating with a revoked non-profit status while still soliciting funds and donations. League officials are currently working on getting the status reinstated on what they say were oversights and problems with correct records from the internal theft.

Candy Alternatives Sought For Teal Pumpkin Project

With Halloween coming up next week, a local effort is hoping to get some area residents to participate in the Teal Pumpkin Project. The goal is to offer non-candy items, helping make Halloween safe for young trick-or-treaters with food allergies.
