Oakdale Exhibitors Get Results At Stanislaus County Fair

Oakdale's 4-H and FFA members had a good showing at the 2009 Stanislaus County Fair, which recently wrapped its annual run. Oakdale FFA members exhibited sheep, beef cattle, dairy cattle, market goats, swine, and rabbits at this year's county fair. While many members placed in the tops of their classes, due to space only champions and first places are listed.

Thursday Fire Destroys Garage

Thick black smoke billowed over Oakdale's early evening sky Thursday, as a one car garage went up in flames in the backyard of a home in the 300 block of South Third Avenue.

Oakdale 4-Hers Win At County Fair

Oakdale area 4-H members recently came home from the Stanislaus County Fair with lots of memories and championship ribbons.
Several members of the Sierra and Valley Home 4-H clubs earned numerous accolades with their livestock at the fair.

Oakdale Rural Fire Hires New Chief

After much deliberation and multiple applications for the job -†including a pitch by the Oakdale City Fire Department for administrative services - the Oakdale Rural Fire Protection District, ORFD, has hired retired Cal Fire employee, Lee Winton for the job of rural fire chief.
Winton is expected to assume duties Sept. 1.

File Of Life Enrollment Draws Seniors

It was a successful day, Wednesday, Aug. 12, when CAPS (Citizen Auxiliary Police Services) members went to the Senior Center to sign up those interested in the File Of Life program, currently facilitated by the Senior Outreach.
According to Ann Farmer, Senior Outreach Coordinator, the day was well worth the effort as 120 seniors were signed up for the program that helps first responders find the appropriate medical information for elderly patients.

OID Farmers Get Full Rebate

In a 4-1 vote at the Tuesday, Aug. 18 regular meeting, the Oakdale Irrigation District Board of Directors approved a 100 percent rebate equal to the 2010 water year taxes for farmers in the district. Director Jack Alpers was the dissenting vote, stating that he supported a 50 percent rebate but felt that anything above that was "outrageous."

Car Seat Safety Day Offers Education

It was a slow start but by the end of the day, Saturday, Aug. 15 more than one family went home with a replacement child safety seat because theirs was out-of-date or unsafe, according to safety standards.
The Oakdale Police Department, in conjunction with other Stanislaus County law enforcement agencies, worked together to conduct free child safety seat check events at St. Mary's Church at 1225 Olive St. in Oakdale.

National Night Out Brings Neighbors Together

Following last year's blueprint, the City of Oakdale hosted three park parties in celebration of the Tuesday, Aug. 4 National Night Out event with varying levels of success.
