Senator Tom Berryhill (R-Twain Harte) said California is one step closer to offering a junior fishing license. The Assembly Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee unanimously passed Senate Bill 345, which would create the reduced-cost Junior Sport Fishing License as a way to encourage young people to explore the sport.

Residents young and old alike will do their best to keep cool and beat the heat, as June ends with a 100-plus degree heat wave. RaeAnn Rodrigues, 5, at left was joined by friends Ayla Reeves, 2, and Ryan Reeves, 4, for a splash and a swim in their Oakdale neighborhood pool. Meanwhile the Oakdale Library has been designed as a Cooling Center by the Stanislaus County Office of Emergency Services; residents in need of a cool place can stop by any time during the library's operating hours to cool off.

Members supporting the Oakdale High School Music Boosters busied themselves stocking their Fireworks booth on Tuesday afternoon in the SaveMart Parking lot. Theirs, along with over two dozen more, opened on Tuesday, June 29 and will remain open for fireworks sales through July 4, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Here, Amaya Toribio works at organizing the various items up for sale. Also helping were Rosie Ortiz, Tammy Kumanchik and Aalliiee Costa.

After breaches of confidentiality in closed session regarding a lawsuit, sworn declarations to the plaintiffs' attorney, and public bashing on social media by two of its directors, the Oakdale Irrigation District filed a lawsuit against Directors Linda Santos and Gail Altieri seeking a temporary restraining order to keep them from strategy sessions surrounding litigation.

Oakdale's JV baseball team was busy this past week with summer ball action, taking part in the Bob Loureiro Invitational Tournament hosted at Escalon High School. In Thursday's finale, they took on the host Cougars, taking the victory off the field. The Mustangs were also tops in the tournament. Here, pitcher Hayden Knittel sends a pitch toward the plate.
