Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have not moved in the past week, averaging $2.46/gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has increased 3.4 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.21/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) Oakdale-Riverbank-Escalon Branch will host its annual Fall Membership Brunch on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 9 a.m. to noon in Oakdale. AAUW is the nation's leading organization advocating equity for women and girls. Graduates holding an associates or higher degree from an institution of the AAUW list of qualified institutions and persons holding an honorary degree are eligible for membership in AAUW.

Law enforcement continues to overwhelmingly support the reelection of U.S. Representative Jeff Denham to the 10th Congressional District. The latest law enforcement endorsement came Monday as U.S. Representative Jeff Denham announced receiving the support of the entire California State Sheriffs Association including local 10th District Sheriffs Adam Christianson (Stanislaus) and Steve Moore (San Joaquin).

Oakdale's VFW Post is gearing up for the next of its monthly hamburger night fundraisers, with Wednesday, Sept. 7 the date for the next event. Hours are from 5:30 p.m. to about 8:30 p.m., at the Oakdale Saddle Club Rodeo Grounds clubhouse. Attendees can stay after eating to socialize. All donations at the dessert table at the monthly dinner go to purchase wreaths for Wreaths Across America. The local VFW and Auxiliary's goal is to have a wreath on every grave at the Santa Nella Veterans cemetery.
