Military Youth Eligible To Receive $10,000

The deadline is fast approaching for youth ages 13 to 18 in military families to get in the running for a $10,000 cash prize, a trip to Washington, D.C., and other donated gifts in the Military Child of the Year Awards competition. Operation Homefront, a national nonprofit with the mission of building strong, stable, and secure military families, will accept nominations for the 2018 Military Child of the Year Awards as well as applications for the 2018 Military Child of the Year Award for Innovation through Monday, Dec. 4.

Pet Photos Offered With Santa At Petco

The Oakdale Shelter Pet Alliance (OSPA) will be at Petco on Saturday, Dec. 2 for a voucher and adoption event with a special visit from Santa. Capture the moment with a photo of your pet and Santa from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Petco will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Oakdale Animal Shelter, which services both Oakdale and Riverbank. The OSPA will have vouchers on hand for those interested along with a couple of furry friends available for adoption from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

Hundreds Attend Benefit Hosted By Visit California

Visit California, in partnership with Food Network Chef Tyler Florence and Outstanding in the Field, hosted The Grateful Table, a special Thanksgiving-themed dinner, bringing hundreds of people together to celebrate the strength and resilience of California's wine country community. The Nov. 21 meal was staged to benefit Northern Californians whose homes and businesses were impacted by the October Wine Country Fires.

HOLIDAY STUFFING

Students of Oakdale Junior and Oakdale High schools participated in the annual 'Stuff the Bus' event the week prior to Thanksgiving, utilizing horse trailers to take their cans to the local food cupboard, Oakdale Community Sharing. A total of 2,520 pounds of food was collected by the OHS student body and 5,280 pounds by students at Oakdale Junior High School.

Toys For Tots Donations Sought

The Oak Summit Masonic Lodge in Knights Ferry is helping the United States Marine Corps Reserve again this year with their Toys For Tots drive by passing out collection boxes for toy donations to local businesses. These businesses have agreed to serve as collection sites to receive new, unwrapped gifts to be donated to the less fortunate children of the community.

FFA FUNDRAISER

Oakdale High School FFA hosted its annual Game Night fundraiser earlier this month. Students served dinner to over 150 people. The annual event earned close to $3,000 which will be used toward member participation in future activities.

December Events Slated At The Oakdale Library

Children and teens are invited to take part in free crafts and activities this December, beginning with a DIY window clings program on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 3:30 p.m. Teens can create snowflakes and other winter designs out of puff paint. When dry, these designs can be used to decorate windows.
