MJC Celebrates History Of Educational Excellence

The Modesto Junior College Foundation is 'Celebrating 95 Years of Educational Excellence' as the theme for this year's Summer Sonata which is slated for Thursday, July 21 at Greens on Tenth, 947 10th St., in downtown Modesto. The elegant evening will feature food catered by Greens, a selection of fine wines and a program showcasing a 95th anniversary celebration video, as well as alumni stories of how MJC touched their lives.

Stanislaus County Libraries Offer More Operating Hours

The Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors recently approved a plan to expand library operating hours, effective July 8, 2016. This will mean opening all 13 library branches – including those in Oakdale and Riverbank – on Fridays and opening two hours earlier at the Ceres Library on Saturdays. The change in hours also includes closing one hour earlier – 8 p.m. instead of 9 p.m. – at libraries in Modesto and Turlock. The new hours represent a net increase of 84 hours per week countywide.

Salmon Threatened By Non-Native Fish

Oakdale Library proved to be a popular stop this past Thursday, as close to 40 children and their families attended a "Minute To Win It" event hosted in conjunction with the library's "Read for the Win" Summer Reading Challenge program. In addition to the activities, participants received prizes for completion of seven varying challenges if achieved within less than a minute.
