Asian Citrus Psyllid Detected In County

The Stanislaus County Agricultural Commissioner, in cooperation with the California Department of Food and Agriculture are conducting an extensive survey program in response to the detection of one Asian citrus psyllid (ACP) in a lemon tree on a residential property within the City of Modesto in Stanislaus County. This is the fourth detection of ACP in the County, two psyllids were found in Turlock in October 2015 and a single psyllid was found in Oakdale in December 2015.

Holiday Traffic Sees Gas Price Drop

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have fallen 3.4 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.66/gallon Sunday, July 10 according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has fallen 3.4 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.23/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Creativity, Magic, Olympics Take Stage At Local Library

LEGO Days will be held on Thursdays, July 14 and 28 at 3:30 p.m. at the Oakdale Library, 151 S. First Ave., and the finished LEGO creations will be displayed at the library. Children under the age of 4 are welcome to participate, however they must have direct parental supervision at all times.

Along with these activities, there are the midway rides and games, food, beverages, music and more. The fair runs through Sunday, July 17 at the fairgrounds in Turlock. City Initiates New Police Chief Search

With the upcoming July 30 retirement of Chief Lester Jenkins, the City of Oakdale took steps to recruit a new police chief with its announcement for the position this past Thursday, July 7. Former Modesto Police Chief Michael Harden is currently serving as interim police chief and will assist in the recruitment while the city searches for someone to lead the 23-sworn member department.
