Looking for a good book? Librarians at the Oakdale Library are always happy to offer reading suggestions. And now, a good book is easier to find than ever. New books at the Oakdale Library will be featured on the first Wednesday of each month in the Oakdale Leader. Librarians will provide information about books for children and adults, both fiction and non-fiction.

The word whizzes of Fair Oaks recently paired off in the Annual Spelling Bee. Top three honors went to, from left: Jessica Birchall, First Place; Carter Franca, Third Place and Joseph Yakligian, Second Place. Birchall will now compete at the county spelling bee as the Fair Oaks representative.

Comedy-Drama ‘Album’ Set At Stage 3 Theatre Company

Album, a comedy drama by David Rimmer and directed by Rocky Rhoades, opens Friday, Oct. 14 and plays for only three weekends until Oct. 30, at Stage 3 Theatre Company, 208 S. Green St., in historic downtown Sonora.

NATIONAL 4-H WEEK

Several Sierra 4-H members spent the evening recently with customers at Tractor Supply Company in Oakdale promoting National 4-H Week. The 4-H members sold green paper clovers that represented head, heart, hands, and health, with the clovers signifying the buyer's support of the program. A display shows some of the activities that 4H offers. Members would like to thank the community for continuing to support them.

Sunday Film, Festivities Benefit AAUW Programs

The American Association of University Women (AAUW), Oakdale Riverbank Escalon Branch, is holding its Annual Fall Scholarship Fundraiser this Sunday, Oct. 16 at 4 p.m. at the Gene Bianchi Center, 110 S. Second Ave., Oakdale. The theme this year is titled, "A journey through Spain on the Camino de Santiago."

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is continuing its efforts to ensure drivers, passengers, and children are properly restrained while traveling California's roadways. The CHP has partnered with the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) on a new traffic safety campaign entitled, "California Occupant Restraint Education" (CORE).

City To Create Interim Managers

With the September retirement of former Oakdale Public Services Director Thom Clark, and the subsequent appointment of Jeff Gravel as the interim director, the city's Public Services Department needs additional management to oversee the day-to-day operations of the department, according to Oakdale City Manager Bryan Whitemyer. As a result, Whitemyer has called for the city to create two Interim Public Services Manager positions.

Electric Charging Stations Coming To Bianchi Center

Stanislaus County, in partnership with the Oakdale Tourism and Visitors Bureau, are working together on a project to install two electric vehicle charging stations in two parking spaces in the Gene Bianchi Community Center parking lot near the Oakdale Library. After discussion by the city council, in a split 3-2 vote, the City of Oakdale moved to have two parking stalls near the library designated strictly for electric vehicles only and their charging.

OHS, Community Prepare For Homecoming Parade

Streets will once again close down to make way for the Oakdale High School student body and the Annual Homecoming Parade. The event will be hosted on Friday, Oct. 14 beginning at 1:30 p.m. to conclude the week of homecoming events. Homecoming royalty will be crowned later that evening at the Corral. (See photos, Page A3.)
