The 17th annual Oakdale Chocolate Festival saw record heat on Sunday, May 17 with temperatures hitting 107 and sending many scurrying for the misters or any spot of shade but in spite of the heat, 43,000 people spent at least part of their weekend in Oakdale, sampling chocolate and perusing vendor booths.

Policy Research Center Study Sees Strengthening Economy

The California economy will maintain strong growth despite soft U.S. economic growth and a deepening drought, according to the latest projection from the Center for Business and Policy Research at the University of the Pacific. The latest forecast boosts its projection of 2015 job growth in California to 2.8 percent, up from 2.3 percent in the January forecast. Summer Season Sees Steady Pump Prices

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have fallen 6.0 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.38 per gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has increased 0.4 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.75/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Warehouse Water Leak Reveals Marijuana Grow

Water flowing from beneath a roll-up door of a warehouse on Ackley Circle led police to the discovery of 136 marijuana plants and a sophisticated grow operation. The tenant, an Oakdale resident, was arrested for marijuana cultivation while police also investigate additional building code violations.
